"Tranny" is like the N-word.
WE can use it to refer to ourselves. But people outside our group can't use it.
When other people use it, it's generally derogatory and malicious. When we use it, it's just short for 'transgendered'.

And NPH was not being malicious. When you "claim" worlds can only be used by some people and not others only when you deem it appropriate you have some other issues to work out.

Well, the n-word has a longer history of being a negative derogatory word. Its use by the targeted group itself is puzzling and a double-standard.

I live in SF and the trannys (short for transvestites) at Trannyshack ^ don't have a problem with the word. This is what NPH was alliterating to in his comment -- a deep mail voice of someone who's a transvestite/drag artist. It's been in use for a long time.

As for transexuals, they need to find another term to be sanctimonious about. I've heard them refer to themselves as "trans" not "tranny". I've met some trans people and they're just regular people who needed to complete the physical transformation their brains started in the womb. My reaction is "oh, that's cool -- you seem at home with the end-product...another beer?"

Then there is a subset of trans people who are going through the process to AW and are just looking to out-do extreme body modifiers/tatts/piercings and are in my opinion shallow and insufferable.
