Robbing them in the parking lot works pretty well too.

This is just one of the many dangers of gambling and the end result will always be a lake of fire.

/except for bingo.

Anecdotal Evidence is Anecdotal:

However, on a recent cruise with Carnival, I hit $100+ winnings after only 5 mins on several of the penny slot machines over the course of the week. In the end, I had won over $600 in 4 sessions, at one point being up over $250. All from an initial investment of $10.00

Paid for my room bill for the girlfriend and I ... :)

That's just solid logic.

2011-12-07 12:52:50 PM
Wait, people actually win at casinos?

2011-12-07 12:54:02 PM
That's actually not a bad idea, as far as crime goes.

JHC, total brain meltdown...

Read a book last year, premise was based on a bunch of drunk yuppies leaving a bar and being the only possible witnesses to a street homicide. One of the main characters is a black teen and his criminal buddy who target the Chinese late at night and rob them on the streets. It was on a couple top 10 lists. Farkers?

2011-12-07 12:58:27 PM
This has been going on in Chicago for 200 years.

2011-12-07 12:58:56 PM
Was the story written in the 1800s?

When do you cease to be classified as an immigrant if you've actually settled into your new land of residence and became a citizen?

Hugh Laurie, a caucasian British immigrant?

2011-12-07 12:59:38 PM
I don't think he was targeted because he won. He just happened to be on Chicago's south side. This shiat happens every day there; I definitely wouldn't show my face anywhere near Chinatown after dark.

cgraves67: Robbing them in the parking lot works pretty well too.

Bad idea. Most casinos have crazy security systems with cameras in the parking lot, and typically a real cop or two around. Home is a safer bet, but before they get into the house where their no barking dogs and shotguns can get you.

Long time and serious gamblers carry firearms in their cars. I've got a Glock 17 just for that purpose.

tricycleracer: Wait, people actually win at casinos?

Depends on what you play and how you play. I'm a pretty good amateur poker player, even placed in the top 5 in a few local tournaments. I'd have to check, but I'd say I'm up about 5k on the year.

Slots on the other hand you will generally lose. I don't really play Black Jack, Roulette, or Craps so I can't comment on if you can win much at those games.

2011-12-07 01:11:56 PM
Umm... this may be a stupid question (I'm not a gambler) but wouldn't it be a lot safer for casinos to cut a check for those types of winnings?

Also I think if I'd won that much cash I'd ask to rent one of the casino bouncers to get me home... or to the bank.

You know, there is something particularly contemptable about a thief. The level of cowardice it takes to beat up an old man and take something that doesn't belong to you is pathetic. Needless to say, any time I hear about a home intruder getting blown away by the homeowner, I stand up and cheer. Maybe if more piece of shiat thieves met with that sort of demise people would think twice about it.

Okay, they won't, but still -- if the follow-up story to this article was that the two thieves who robbed this man were found alive in a dark alley somewhere, castrated and with their hands cut off, would anyone be upset?

Nah. One of the witnesses/suspects is an aspiring author with a manuscript that he ends up sending burning pages of out of his apartment window. And there's corrupt cops and shiat. Just killing me that I can't remember the book or the author. Very unusual for me. Just set off a memory. Like Shaggy C said, in the book it's the kind of thing that happens everyday in Chinatown.

If the guy who got robbed is in any way affiliated with the Chinese mafia that could very likely happen.

The best route is, after a big win, is ask for security to escort you to your car.

The casino is happy to do so (really!) and you'll be safe in your car.

Of course, after that, you're on your own...

One could just wait for you to take a shower, shoot your silent dogs, grab you when you come boiling out of the shower to see what the noise is.

Do you have a shower gun? Better get one quick!

He made it back home and then was attacked. It kind of sounds very likely to have been just a random robbery... with some very lucky muggers.

They're probably on one hell of a crack binge right now. I hope they choke on it.

Nah, that is SOP for thug robbers who case casino's. If you win big never take a direct route home and always pay attention to see if you are being followed.

Which brings me back to my original point... why don't they just cut these big winners a check?

And the casino should really pay more attention if they have thieves hanging around looking for victims.

Or maybe they work for the casino themselves. Vinnie don't like losing.

No, it happens.

Of course, PRO TIP is: If you win big, don't brag about it. Don't call your friends on your cell phone in a public place and tell them about it.

Split the difference and run them off the road somewhere en route.

Statistically, you're more likely to shoot yourself or lose your weapon to the intruder than actually blowing anyone away. Also, a home intruder is usually not too concerned about his own safety.

This exact thing happened here in Cincinnati a year or so ago. the winners were in the Indiana casinos.
There were a few of crimes where the perps followed the victim home and robbed them of their winnings.
It got so bad that the police set up a sting and they caught the bad guys/girl and they have all been sent off to jail.

Shotguns are to unweildy to carry around. Get yourself a nice little .380 or a compact 9mm and please make sure you know how to use it so you don't hurt anybody you don't intend to hurt.

Yeah I've heard about this. I think if I was being followed after a big win I'd pull into a posh hotel with drive up service and a lot of security and just get a room for the night. However I guess it is possible that some of these thugs would gladly stay up all night and attack you in broad daylight. By that point I would've gotten my car directly out of the garage and stopped at a bank though.

I once won $1250 on a slot machine and I was a bit worried that I was going to get robbed at some point. When you win, the slot machine starts flashing and an attendant has to assist you for tax info and such. But when all of the paperwork is done, they pay you at the machine counting off $100 bills in front of everyone. Understandably, this is for the benefit of the casino: "Look! This guy just won! You can, too!" But it also tells everyone nearby that I am now carrying at least $1200 in cash on me.

/Oh, and it happened in Detroit, which didn't help my uneasiness.

Still nothing wrong with having a nice Remington 870 tactical by the bed just in case either.
