They can keep him. I do like what the Mets did with the bullpen yesterday though, assuming that last year was just a down year for Rauch and doesn't become the norm.

They are willing to trade AJ? You dont say.

I love to see the Yankees blow money for poor results.

12.5 million for a guy who has gone 21-26. Okay maybe if he switches to the NL he'll switch those columns, but thats still 12 million for a .500 pitcher.

You can call a rookie up and get similar results, maybe better if you put that 12 million towards a good team to back him.

It's that time of year again.. it's AJ-THON!
All late year model AJs MUST GO!
0% financing for one year or four 3rd inning implosions!
Cash back incentives!
Trade in your much less expensive, yet still serviceable pitcher!
Hurry in.. this offer won't last! (we hope)

This has exactly WHAT to do with the Mets again?

The Mets don't even have enough money to refill the clubhouse gum supply.

Well, to be fair, they do have to pay Bobby Bonilla a million dollars a year until 2035.

When he'll be 72. Thirty five years after the last game he played for them.

Bobby Bonilla's agent should be in the Hall of Fame for negotiating such a deferment schedule for his client.

Cashman: "We want to give you AJ Burnett. We'll even pay part of his salary for you."
Opposing GM: "What do you want in return?"
Cashman: "Wait, you're willing to give us something IN RETURN?!?!?!??!?!?!?"

You can trade Carlos Pena for 3 years worth of soda.

It really is an amazing deal. The Mets front office should do ads for Rent-A-Center.

8m over the two years isn't much at all. The Braves paid 10m of Derek Lowe's last year of his deal to ship him out.

Yankees and Red Sox would like to see the Marlins get nostalgic for Burnett and Beckett.

I think only Spanish-speaking players are allowed on the Marlins now since the move to Little Havana.

I must protest this notion due to the devestating effect it will have on LoMo's tweeting.

well since the topic has come up and there are no other baseball threads today, some updates for those not following:

-The Marlins have pulled out of the Pujols sweepstakes and have instead offered a 6 year deal to CJ WIlson.
-Yankees have won the post for Hiroyuki Nakajima. If they sign him, he'll back up Jeter at short.
-Tim McCarver has inexplicably won the Ford C Frick Award for Excellence in Broadcasting

If Burnett was a free agent, NOONE would give him a 2 year $25m deal. The Yankees need to package him if theyre gonna move him.

Bleh. AJ Burnett has not been a ".500 pitcher". He has been a pitcher with an ERA around 5, but thanks to three years of ridiculously potent offense, his team has won roughly half his starts despite him.

Now I'm going to be angry for the rest of the day.

I guess this means that, like the Grammys, the Ford C Frick Award is now utterly meaningless.

I think the Marlins pulled out of the Pujols sweepstakes after a nice IRS agent went into the GM's office asking "where all the money is coming from".

/my money's on the yayo.

Or they realized tying all that monster/years into a 31 year old slugger in a DL-less league is a bad idea.

/Anyone else wish that Mike Trout and Mike Carp would go to the Marlins to make the fishiest team in the league?

Maybe the Sox could trade him for Lackey?
