For a minute, I thought this was talking about the international space station and I got excited about zero gravity plasma research.

I neglected to consider 0g effects on plasma, but that is an interesting thought.

I was getting really excited until I reached the "modified to fire blanks" section. Now it is just a big air gun collection, only with less can plinking ability.

ha-ha-guy: I was getting really excited until I reached the "modified to fire blanks" section. Now it is just a big air gun collection, only with less can plinking ability.

Yeah, not so much. A friend of mine is doing a video explicitly on this to be shown to movie and theatre directors (teaser trailer here Link )(new window)

Without stealing his thunder, I'll go ahead and relay my own anecdote. When I go around to schools who are debating the need (and expense) of hiring somebody to manage stage combat and oversee blank-gun safety, I've found that administrators tend to fall asleep when people talk about injury rates and other "numbers" to justify their expense. Thusly, I conclude my spiel by putting a cantaloupe on a stool positioned on a tarp. I take an M1 Garand and a crimped blank .30-06 round, and pass the round around the people to show there's no slug in there. In full view, I then load the single round and fire at the melon from about 5 feet away. The melon will explode (hence the tarp). It's an easy sale after I point out that the structural differences between someone's head - say, that of a student - and a melon aren't all that significant.

Now, I don't mention that we're talking about a relatively large-caliber blank rifle round here, and that practically every blank gun I supply fires an 8mm pistol round, and are top-venting instead of front-venting to boot...but those are details that most school administrators wouldn't have any concept how to process anyway, being as terrified of guns as they are. I just have to mention that the rise in their insurance rates from a kid getting shot by accident onstage is going to significantly outweigh my hourly rates for the show, and bam! New gig.

Awesome, you're a fear-mongering opportunist.

also, what's with the "going great guns" babble in TFA's headline?

What is a killi watt? Is that smaller than a femto watt?
