FTFA: "They and hundreds of others plan to drop in on congressional offices unannounced, and demand a meeting with their representatives. For most, this is their first time in Washington and the first time they have tried to meet with their member of Congress.

No shiat it's their first time here. These Members of Congress have schedules and appointments, many made months in advance, that they're not going to drop just because 20 unemployed people walk into their DC office. Call their scheduler and make an appointment like a human being. They have hundreds of thousands of constituents in many cases. 20 of them walking in the door is not going to change the fact that Congress has tons of business, and votes, to attend to.

I really do sympathize with Occupy, but this shiat just makes them seem like the entitled, deluded twits their opponents claim that they are.

Those $500 lunches paid for by pharmaceutical companies aren't gonna eat themselves, after all.

If you think Alan West, War Criminal, Teabagger and douchebag extreme is going to meet with these people even if they "call his scheduler" you're crazy.

It sounds like they got to see some congressmen, but neglected to bring along enough "campaign contributions" to sway their opinions.

TFA said he did meet with their leaders the same day they demanded to see him. Which is a kindness that I'm telling you is very rare. However, they couldn't come to any agreements... what a shock.

Ever tried to make an appointment to meet with your Congressman? How eager do you think they are to schedule time for a random, unemployed constituent?

The permits are generally to break city ordinaces, park rules, etc, not to protest.

Sadly, the "representatives" seem to only have two plans:

1. Slash Social Security & Medicare.
2. More tax breaks for the rich.

These idiots were caught totally unprepared and are completely incapable of doing jack squat to save this economy. They are like idiots who enlisted in the military expecting to get tons of veteran perks and then when war breaks out they sputter "You mean I actually have to go out and risk getting killed???".

Yeah, I think my statement should be rephrased to "the people who get you elected". Yes, the voters are important in that, but more important are the party big wigs, the major donors, and your campaign team.

Not a bad analogy. The idiot these Howard Johnson's elected out here rode to victory based on her good looks. Debates? She can't debate. Hell, she commented on how Congress was just like taking a political science class.
She has done nothing substantial for the state and she replaced a Democrat who was connected on al the pertinent committees. Real smart, South Dakota, real smart.

Philip Francis Queeg: Ever tried to make an appointment to meet with your Congressman? How eager do you think they are to schedule time for a random, unemployed constituent?

They probably aren't, but one should make the effort before resorting to being a dick. They'll probably talk to some of them for a few minutes at least, or a bit longer given a couple weeks notice, honestly. Politicians are surprisingly willing to just hang out with concerned voters if it doesn't seem too much like a setup sometimes, and since this would be random members of a protest movement rather than some kind of organized leadership they can at least be comfortable in the fact that statistically they're going to be the cleverest person in the room.

In any case, if you show up without an appointment and you immediately start making an ass of yourself, it's entirely appropriate for them to call the cops on you. If you're denied an appointment then you can probably get some form of media to come cover you when you come back and start camping on the rep's office doorstep or whatever. So even if you are just inherently rude, objective more likely achieved if you try the nice way first.
