These Members of Congress have schedules and appointments, many made months in advance, that they're not going to drop just because 20 unemployed people walk into their DC office. Call their scheduler and make an appointment like a human being. They have hundreds of thousands of constituents in many cases. 20 of them walking in the door is not going to change the fact that Congress has tons of business, and votes, to attend to.

I really do sympathize with Occupy, but this shiat just makes them seem like the entitled, deluded twits their opponents claim that they are.

I guess you didn't read the part of the article that explained that the protesters were in Washington and wanted to speak to their representative.

The permits are generally to break city ordinaces, park rules, etc, not to protest.

1. Slash Social Security & Medicare.
2. More tax breaks for the rich.

They probably aren't, but one should make the effort before resorting to being a dick. They'll probably talk to some of them for a few minutes at least, or a bit longer given a couple weeks notice, honestly. Politicians are surprisingly willing to just hang out with concerned voters if it doesn't seem too much like a setup sometimes, and since this would be random members of a protest movement rather than some kind of organized leadership they can at least be comfortable in the fact that statistically they're going to be the cleverest person in the room.

In any case, if you show up without an appointment and you immediately start making an ass of yourself, it's entirely appropriate for them to call the cops on you. If you're denied an appointment then you can probably get some form of media to come cover you when you come back and start camping on the rep's office doorstep or whatever. So even if you are just inherently rude, objective more likely achieved if you try the nice way first.
