So, can someone convert "6th form" to US? Is that like 6th grade, or something else? Because, 6th grade is like 12-13 year olds here

It's the optional end bit of secondary education, 16 to 18-year-olds.

Well, the British pound is usually about 1.5x as much as the dollar, so I'm thinking "6th form" kids are 1.5x as old as our 6th graders.

So, they're 18.

Personally, I would rather go along for the "brothel bust" and "non-compliant strip club" field trips.

That's a hell of a field trip. Our DARE officer wasn't that cool.

Thanks to all.... makes a bit more sense then, I mean, I could see 17-18 year olds that were prepping to go into law enforcement careers being taken to something like that. 12-13 year olds would be a bit young for that.

So it took 100 officers at each location to arrest 3/4 of a person? I'm calling this raid a failure. Clearly the network was not disrupted, just interrupted briefly.

Or as I call that, Thursday.

The community was invited to watch you get arrested, and you just stayed home?

I must be missing something.

In their defense, they can claim they were there by invitation.

Check your math there, chief... 1000 officers / 100 locations = 10 officers/location

/was told there would be no math

At first I thought this would be about those Boy Scouts getting real, military style, raid training like they are getting down in California.

Give them a taste of the power, then sign them up for INS.

One thousand officers raided 100 properties and arrested 75 people.

Wow. That's a lot of cops. I wonder how many violent/property crimes were committed while these bobbies were distracted with this raid.

2011-12-07 01:54:33 PM
Too bad the criminals didn't have guns with them to start a gun battle with. Imagine the thrill the kids would've gotten if they had to duck for cover every few seconds as they try to watch the raid, only to find that the classmate beside them now has a hole in his/her head.

So, members of the community (not just school kids) were brought on police raids to view them. Although the sentiment is admirable (showing the community they are doing something), there is something wrong with making an arrest/raid a public spectacle, especially as not everyone who was arrested was charged (just over half of the 75 were actually charged). This stinks of invasion of privacy.

Though I'm not surprised that this happened in the UK. Nanny state/Big brother at its finest.

With the popularity of reality TV I can honestly see more of this happening and for profit.
