Man, that's going to be an awkward film set. What with her playing his sister and all.

I should amend my Boobies and say that I kind of hope they kill his sister off. I'm only into season 4 and going into 5 now, so I don't know if it already happened, but man do I hope. I can't stand her character and the actress always seems like she's about to start weeping, even when she's happy. Just bugs me.

I'm going to go against the grain and say I like Deb, primarily because I find her both funny and hot.

That doesn't change the fact that the last couple of seasons have been progressively more terrible.

You should stop with season 4. The wife and I just gave up on the series a couple episodes ago. Season 5 was bad, but season 6 is on another plane of suckitude.

You must be joking? S6 is at least ten times better than S5. While no S4, it is definitely better than 3 & 5.

I'm sad to hear that. I haven't seen any of Season 6 yet, but Season 5 was pretty disappointing. After marathoning my way through Breaking Bad I'm not even sure I'll go back...

SigmaAlgebra: season 6 is on another plane of suckitude.

The thing about 6 is that they made the 'twist' incredibly obvious as early as the second episode. I'm sure they thought no one would figure it out. Instead, it was just really painful to see all the 'tricks' they had to use to cover it up.

I was actually hoping they'd end up playing it straight, just to mess with everyone who thought they figured it out.

I just finished watching whichever season had Lumen on it. I forget to track which season it is.

It wasn't terrible terrible, but it has been growing less good. The whole busted-by-the-boyfriend-but-now-he-won't-tell is one of those magical leaps they want us to make that I'm not comfortable with.

Deb is scrawny, ugly, foul, butch. Here is where you expect me to say "but I'd...". Nope. I think she's the anti-hot.

Season 6 is definitely better than Season 5. Quite frankly, I didn't see the twist coming until the beginning of the episode in which it occurred, but once the possibility occurred to me, I was convinced it was going to happen. It wasn't terrible, but it was hardly original. I'm far more interested in what Louis is up to than Colin Hanks.

My coworker caught it pretty early on, and since he presented the theory it was all I could focus on. Not sure if I'd have figured it out on my own, but something definitely seemed....off. Initially I just attributed it to the writing, but that made things make a little more sense.

Heheh boobies. It's your call on that one. The writers did break the formula a bit with seasons 5 and 6. Probably because they knew there was no way they could EVER top John Lithgow and season 4. That was probably the best season the show's ever seen.
/Still misses Doakes though.

Season 5's only sucks in comparison to season 4, which was easily the best season.

I like season 6, though my biggest complaint is that it seems to kind of ignore the trajectory of season 5. S6 also seems to have a lot of stories running around that don't quite mesh, though some of them (louis' in particular) seem to be obviously working the show down to its end.

I was wondering that too. I thought ti was odd that both Colin Hanks and Edward James Olmos were as out in the open as they were even though Olmos' face had been published rather early. Makes more sense in retrospective.

I don't want this to be an "I'm smarter than you!" post, but I got it really early. No spoilers for anyone else, but I got clued in too early and spent the last 4 or so episodes second guessing my original theory.

LOL. Same here. I just thought it was the writers being stupid.

Personally, I don't think the show has fallen as far as many people seem to think. It's just hard to top season 4. I even liked season 5, gaping plot holes and all. But then, I've always had a thing for Julia Stiles.

Yeah, wtf IS he up to? I'm tending towards nothing at all, and he's just a pointless character. I think Deb's psychiatrist might come into play. Also, why are they wrecking Quinn's character? They have simply been playing fast and loose this season. Dexter is far too careless and it is annoying that everyone remains oblivious. Rarely is Dexter in a precarious situation where he is likely to get caught. Also, way too many story lines that seem disjointed.

2011-12-07 11:02:57 AM
RE: Dexter- is the police procedural/investigative part of that show not the most ridiculous thing ever broadcast? So terrible. Deb's the worst of a bad lot of detectives, so they reward her excellence. My GF and I pause the show six or more times an episode to marvel at and mock the shiat writing. That show should either be cured or euthanized.

2011-12-07 11:12:28 AM
HarpuaMM: Also, way too many story lines that seem disjointed.

I, for one, was really happy when they got rid of the kids. Someone should have sack-punched the writers for even considering the idea.

2011-12-07 11:15:35 AM
Well, Michael C. Hall is single again...so there is that.

No one has more love for Dexter than I do...but Christ on a Cracker has this season sucked. Perhaps it was the egregious miscasting of Colin Hanks. He might look like his dad, but doesn't possess his acting chops by a long shot. The So-Obvious-it-Hurts 'twist' which wasn't. The sloppiness of Dexter. The freakish lack of Dex kills. Seriously...it's almost like the writers were replaced with a freshman class of lit majors.

However...it spoilers I've read are true...this season might be salvagable, if what the setup's I've read are coming are true. It might not be a good season...but could set us up for some EPIC final years.

/Colin Hanks' character would have been better served by Michael Pitt.
//Brother Sam was the most interesting character this season.

2011-12-07 11:18:22 AM
HarpuaMM: I'm tending towards nothing at all, and he's just a pointless character.

There are too many little things they've thrown in for him just to be a red herring. Sterile apartment, "collector," got the Ice Truck Killer evidence, lied to Matsuka, "hacking" and tracing IPs (hello, Dexter's use of department resources to track his victims), access to Dexter's house through the babysitter, serial killer game, crushing disappointment at Dexter's condemning of the same....

The possibilities are:

1. He either is or wants to be a serial killer, and either knows or suspects that Dexter is; OR
2. He's FBI/internal affairs.

2011-12-07 11:26:17 AM
kronicfeld: There are too many little things they've thrown in for him just to be a red herring.

I agree. I actually like the character, though, as par for the course in all television, the portrayal of computer technology is ridiculous.

"Oh, yeah, I made my own search engine. It's more effective and faster than Google." You know that the hardware Google uses for that sucks electricity like a small country, right? I don't recall your apartment having floor-to-ceiling server racks on every square foot of floorspace.

Also, if he turns out to be another brother, I'll kill myself.

2011-12-07 11:28:05 AM
I don't understand the hate for this season. Oh well, to each their own. (Maybe I'm just really enjoying the post-Rita world)

They do seem to still be friends though, which is cool. Carpenter, I fear, wouldn't have been a good enough actor to handle it if the divorce was acrimonious. That being said, she's a far better actress now than she was in the first two seasons.

/Also, I miss Doakes

2011-12-07 11:29:35 AM

Option 1 is too obvious. Having Dex face off against yet another serial killer would really dampen the last 2 seasons.
Option B sounds like a lot of fun! Play that someone on high has actually been paying attention and has sent the computer geek in to get some answers :)
