It wouldn't be Bud, subby, it'd be whatever overly-hopped macrobrew IPA the Barista's boyfriend is sampling this week.

I wish the beer and wine was available before 2:00pm.

Removing the social stigma of drinking before noon would be great.

I could imagine ordering a venti something through the drive up window.

Despite the fact the headline is a stretch based on the content of the article, the headline resonates with me because it could so easily be true. A very typical American thing to do, across the social spectrum. If something is good, more of it is better. If two things are good, combing them is better. To the point where a single cup of well brewed coffee at home is scoffed at by people drinking lots of caffeine out at these shiat-ass places, but have probably never enjoyed a cup of good, self brewed coffee at home for pennies a cup. And it doesn't take the pedantic, nearly OCD, levels of preparation and preparing as one might read in any thread regarding things people can be so pedantic about. Shaving, beer, alcohol, cooking, etc. A good cup of coffee is a simple thing. Make it at home, avoid feeding $tarbucks and avoid having to go in there and hear seasonal acoustic crap music and seeing over-priced coffee making apparatus that only intimidates you, like a French press.

I know I am quite the plebeian, but I have two generally FARK-contrarian points to make concerning beer and coffee:

1) I like making my own coffee, as rudemix has pointed out. I like the daily routine, and I like the smell, etc. Granted, I don't make good coffee, by any stretch of the imagination. I prefer Maxwell House's breakfast blend or master blend (I like lighter coffees. I don't know why) and I have a cheap KitchenAid drip maker.

Also, my general disdain for darker coffees has kept me away from Starbucks, as their normal offering, and usually their seasonal/alt stuff, is geared for people who like a more dark roast.

However, I was in St. Louis for a conference back in August, and the hotel I was staying in had a Starbucks. Now, given the option between Starbucks coffee and no coffee, I'll drink it, because I like coffee.

I ordered their "Daily Horizons," as it was advertised as being a lighter brew. And sure enough, it was actually very good. Not just not bad, but I enjoyed the whole thing.

Now, who knows if this enjoyment was because it was 7:50 a.m. and I wanted coffee, or if it was actually good. I'm just saying it was a very good cup of coffee.

Now, to the second point:

2) I know we all like special fancy triple oatmeal cream smoke weizens, but man, High Life will always hold a special place in my heart as my favorite of the cheap beers.

There is little better than getting home from a long day of teaching kids about commas and grammar, sitting down in my recliner, and popping open a High Life.

No thanks, if I want a coffee stout I'll drink a Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat.

I bought some of this last night. It does taste a lot like coffee.

I always thought it would make sense for Starbucks to offer coffee drinks with liqueur in them... you know, Mexican coffee, Irish coffee, that sort of thing. They also have tea so they could make hot toddies.

/Mmmmm... hot toddy.

Was it St. Louis Hilton At the Ballpark? (Were you 1/2 block from Busch Stadium and directly across from a huge parking structure?)

Love that hotel, don't get back to the Lou very often though.
