Think of it as the English equivalent of Kobi beef.

Did anyone else find the fact that they monitor their rabbits via webcam a little... disturbing?

I live in Norfolk, so I'm getting a kick...

No I'm not.
I wish I could afford that much to spend on my bunny. I can only just afford her vaccinations.
I can't wait to see the rabbits gnaw away at any of the wood work they can get their teeth into. I hope they live long and happy bunny lives though.

Anyway, make this a happy fluffy bunny thread!

I'm sure the bunnies appreciate those OSHA-approved hand-rails and railing

$14k for that thing? Someone got ripped off.

Actually, i'm going to approve of this.

Yeah, it was a waste of money in the eyes of some: but I see that as money that recirculated in their community.

It's pretty clear from looking at the work done that this wasn't done by Harry Homeowner, the Hutch was built by a carpenter, who can call himself a true craftsman, The Electrical was done by skilled hands (with proper EMT usage and everything!) and someone had to design the remote control app for this guy's smartphone.

All in all, it looks like they spent ten thousand pounds which would have otherwise sat in a bank account, doing no-one any good but the bankers. Instead, they improved the lives of a programmer, carpenter and an electrician.

They are really cute. My sister had a pet bunny for years. Always said it was her favorite pet.

hmm don't really care for rabbit threads (not like they happen often though). Makes me miss my friend, "Atilla the Bun" She hung with me for six years.

And I thought a heated 8x16 foot heated kennel for my dogs with an 18x18 run outside was super overkill.

/granted I did put a couch in there for each of them
//found the couch on the side of the road
///they liked it because it was pre-stunk up

2011-12-07 08:44:51 AM
Apparently building materials and webcams are a hell of a lot more expensive over there, and weigh a lot more too.

2011-12-07 09:01:00 AM
I dunno, I'm not actually very impressed by that hutch. I mean, for 10 000 pounds, couldn't they have given the rabbits more room? They wouldn't even need all the fancy electronic gear if they just kept their rabbits inside their home in the first place.

Aw, you're a good dog owner. The couch is a nice touch. :)

I spent like $300 building a nice insulated coop and fenced in yard for my hens, but not because I have an abiding love for chickens. I just don't want possums or raccoons to kill my egg layers.

My chickens just got a new $1000 shed with windows, heat, and a webcam. They were in a smaller $1600 prefab coop, but the big chickens started not letting the little chickens in.

Twenty chickens, and I don't get ONE DAMN EGG. They're hiding them somewhere around the yard, and the ones that are left where I can find them are getting eaten by other chickens.

Headline sucks! Nowhere in TFA does it say the rabbits were just born, so why are they "ugly ass"? Also the kittens in a bag a few threads down probably were (just born, DNRTFA), why were they not designated as "ugly ass"? Does no one follow protocol anymore?

I don't approve of the electrical. I see some exposed wires in the photos that buns can chew through and become Hasenpfeffer.

At first I was a little disgusted with the excess, then I realized that I'd rather read stories like this than ones about people hoarding and abusing.

My free-rangers started the hiding thing when they first started laying. Had to keep them locked up for a week or so (heated coop with a 24' run) and then they started using their nesting boxes. Now, the come and go as they please into the yard and still use the boxes. The only time they layed outside it is when the wind knocked the coop door shut. That sucks, I'd be pretty pissed if I had 20 and none were cooperating. :(

2011-12-07 10:20:01 AM
Well, to be fair, three of them are roosters. The hens were laying in the nest boxes just fine until this summer. It's going to be too cold to let them out for the next three days (

... annnd I used the "less than" sign and my message got truncated .... It's going to be below 25, so it will be interesting to see what kind of eggs I get. Probably a lot of broken shells and some yolk stains. Gotta build some of those chicken-proof nest boxes.

It is Bunday.

Lit at night? So messing up your own circadian rhythms isn't bad enough, you want to fark with the rabbits?

2011-12-07 11:38:34 AM
Why go through all of this trouble to keep them outside? Bring the bunnies inside -- they'll be much happier.

/have had free-running litter-box trained rabbits for 15 years now
//have one rabbit now, and she's currently laying down underneath my desk at work. Great pet for home...and office!

well the guy himself was the Electrician I thought, so he's just giving himself money, the selfish bastard!!!

I must say that as the owner of rabbits, I spent $0.00 on their living arrangements, which are far superior and much more comfortable than this $10,000 monstrosity. MY rabbits run around in the fresh air and sunshine in my fenced-in yard, free to run, jump, and play to their heart's content. In bad weather they hunker under the porch for shelter, where they enjoy digging holes and burrows just like normal rabbits. They munch on grass, dandelions, and raspberry leaves, and are free to sit in the sun or nap in the shade or hide in a hole. A $10,000 prison is still a prison, even if it does include a thermostat.

/Never understood why the animals with the most powerful running and jumping muscles are confined to cages.

You must not have coyotes, bobcats, owls, or golden eagles where you live.

My bunny mansion (with one extra bunny inside):

a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net

Total cost, about $50 in shelf-cubes and scrounged parts; plus an afternoon's labor. The buns seem to like it.
