To answer your serious question with a depressingly serious answer : moms in this situation off the kids because they think nobody will take care of them when she is gone. It's better they die by her own hands than wind up in social services and suffer even more at the hands of a stranger.

18 pages plus other paperwork demanded. Some states intentionally make the application process very demanding and even demeaning.
I suspect conservative states such as Texas would be among that group.

This is really sad. My daughter has special needs and we applied for medicaid as a secondary insurance for her. Trying to get this done, despite the fact that she automatically qualified due to her diagnosis, was very difficult and resulted in dozens of faxes they "never received", phone calls they never returned, etc. I ended up having to drive in and get it taken care of by being kind of a bully. I certainly don't condone going in with a gun, but if it was a matter of getting food for my kids- I can understand the desperation.

So terrible that it ended the way it did. These people do not treat you like a human being until you are approved- that is for sure.
