•Aela the Huntress - I don't wanna spoil the fun for anyone who hasn't yet done the Companion quest chain but um...she *really* likes to bite. And scratch. And...um....howl.

Argis the Bulwark looks hawt but I don't want to lose him as a companion. Will he quit his job and stay home if I marry him?

i'm on my second play through of the game. I motored through the main quest on the first run and skipped a bunch of quests. i'm trying a different play style now tho - stealth asssasin rather than magic using blaster.

That's who I should have went with. I took Ysolda thinking I could marry again. I had heard a carrier is supposed to come by if your spouse dies and you could marry again. I turned into a werewolf and killed her. No carrier ever came, can't get married again. I'm a bad husband, I know. But that was the wolf talking. Next time I'll choose one who can go out to battle with me, instead of a stay at home merchant. Even Lydia would have been better.

Weaver95: stealth asssasin

That's my go-to. Maybe on a future playthrough, I'll do something different. My stealth sniper's "shiat's gone pear-shaped" is to dual wield sword/spell. When I discovered that you could hack and keep your spell going I was very happy.

ACT IV, SCENE III, CONTINUED

Lifts-Her-Tail: Certainly not, kind sir! I am here but to clean your chambers.

Crantius Colto: Is that all you have come here for, little one? My chambers?

Lifts-Her-Tail: I have no idea what it is you imply, master. I am but a poor Argonian maid.

Crantius Colto: So you are, my dumpling. And a good one at that. Such strong legs and shapely tail.

Lifts-Her-Tail: You embarrass me, sir!

Crantius Colto: Fear not. You are safe here with me.

Lifts-Her-Tail: I must finish my cleaning, sir. The mistress will have my head if I do not!

Crantius Colto: Cleaning, eh? I have something for you. Here, polish my spear.

Lifts-Her-Tail: But it is huge! It could take me all night!

Crantius Colto: Plenty of time, my sweet. Plenty of time.

Heh I'm still working on my first playthrough. Every major questline is completed (besides Bards, I heard they were pretty boring) and now I'm just cleaning up the misc. quests and discovering every location/finding the rare loot. Once I find/discover everything, I'll be putting it on the shelves until DLC & PC price drops so I can grab a copy for PC with all of the sweet, sweet mods.

My only problem:
I've got two large quest chains open (Stones of Bedeziah (sp?) & Repairing the Phial) that are essentially broken. The Phial one won't update after taking a briar heart and apparently I locked myself out of the stones one by not grabbing the one hidden in the Thalmor Embassy (which is now perma-locked). Now I've got 12 Stones stuck in my inventory (which don't stack BTW, wtf is that?!) and no possible way of completing the quest. If you're gonna make a quest out of collecting random shiat throughout ALL of Skyrim, don't make them mandatory to keep in your inventory. Or if you do, make them weightless UNTIL you complete the quest.

Other than that, I'm still in love with the game.

i'm actually enjoying the stealth route. magic using destructo-boy was a fun character...but if you don't have a buddy around to block the rabble while you fire up the wave motion gun then you get knocked around a bit. dual wielding destruction spells was fun tho.

stealth assasin tho...totally different game play. stock up on dagger/1h weapon talents, light armor and archery. stealth too, obviously. enchanting to pump up things you find along the way. alchemy to brew your own invis potions. i've actually one shot a boss mob from stealth. and big fights at the bottom of a tomb are much easier when you can thin out the ranks with some quick bow shots from the shadows.

i'll play a heavy weapons/Nord type on my third play through. right now i'm gonna rock the stealth thing for a while.

scottydoesntknow: Or if you do, make them weightless UNTIL you complete the quest.

Quest items are weightless until you complete the quest. They still display weight in the interface, but they don't count toward the limit.

"Lydia - Nord, found in Dragonsreach in Whiterun."

I thought Lydia's AI was bugged so you couldn't marry her, or did they patch that?

Yes, the game does not end after the main quests (there's 2 of em). It will get a little frustrating when you still see conversation options like "Do you think [Side A] will win the war?" or "Why are you helping [Side A] in the war?" while the leader of Side A is dead right next to you and the war is technically over.

yes. But I'd already closed out some options due to decisions made while doing the main quest so I thought I'd just start over and wipe the slate clean.

so far, my favorite quests have been the Dark Brotherhood and the Companions. the mage guild quests were ok, but by that point I was like 'go to tomb, nuke from orbit, repeat'. seriously - 100 level destruction magic is obscenely overpowered.

I think they're supposed to be weightless (I did read that they said that), but I don't think that's the case. I do know that when I picked up the Elder Scroll for the main quest my weight shot up 20 points, and the same with the stones.

I'll do a test by removing all of my non-quest gear later tonight to make sure. I know my weight has been steadily increasing while trying to keep my inventory clean.

Dark Brotherhood was my #1 for sure. The ending is just so awesome!

*SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T COMPLETED DB QUESTS*

The emperor was such a badass as he stared death in the face, laughed at it ("One can't avoid the Dark Brotherhood with a simple decoy"), and made one request: vengeance. I felt bad lobbing an arrow through his forehead, but it was so satisfying killing the initial guy who hired you.

Nope, you'll get a bounty in Solitude, but all you gotta do is pay it off and you'll be ok. Killing the emperor will not force you to join the Stormcloaks or kick you out of the Imperials quest. You can still join either side at any time.

Companion scripting in Skyrim is awful. Grumpy's (RIP) companion script for Morrowind was/is light years beyond anything Bethesda has produced since.

Bring on the CS so the mod community can fix this game.

From what I've experienced. I usually have one hired companion, then there are certain quests that add other people so sometimes I've had two companions helping kill some bosses.

Starting out I burned through companions. Half the time they were long dead before I notice no one was following me anymore.

In any case, Berland has been the best. And his lame joke each time I ask him to trade equipment makes be giggle harder each time.

Lydia has been pretty tough so far but Berland does sound appealing as a hubby. I see he's balding somewhat and you know what they say about bald men - plenty of stamina.

Destruction is weaksauce at high levels, but it is great for a while. I switched over to two-handed weapons and never looked back. I'm pretty much invincible now, in full (weightless) dragon armor and armed with a daedric weapon that can crush anyone's skull. Even mages can't get through my maxed magic defense.

Any build is viable, but the warrior builds become broken faster than others.

Seems every time I did that with Lydia she would end up fighting the other person at some point. Been using Argis since, and he seems to stay out of trouble better.

I think you're better off just going full on stealth/blast mage. maybe pick up archery a bit more after you max out destruction magic.

I tend to pick a set of combat skills that look like they'd work well together and then work on them until they're fairly high level. In this case - stealth/archery/1h/light armor. my secondary skills are alchemy and enchanting.

Do part of the quest with the talking dog, but don't finish. He'll follow you forever, and he's invincible. Get a companion, max Conjuration, and pick someone for Dead Thrall. Now you have three followers. Four, if you have the Twin Souls perk (which you want).

For added fun, give the humans staffs that let them summon atronachs. I haven't tested that last part, though.

I got tired of sneaking past traps and having my housecarl hit the trigger and crushing me to death. so I leave the companions at home.
