Finally. Sheesh.

Contract every team below #7.

Only in these rankings. Peter King had them at #2, so there's still plenty of Patriot-love out there.

The fact that the Falcons and Cowboys did what they did this weekend, and are still Top 10, tells you all you need to know about the NFL this year.

/#4? Perfectly happy with that right now.

Did VY's scintillating performance give him the Jake this week? Will the Saints ever take their rightful place in 3rd? Will somebody find some way to blame Tony Romo or Kyle Orton for something?

That information and more in today's Power Rankings thread!

2011-12-06 02:40:53 PM
Weird. No team is 8-4. Every other possible record is held other then 1-11 and 11-1.

2011-12-06 02:41:02 PM
Is it just me or is there a pretty big gap between team 6 and team 7?

Also, Ravens are 1/2 packers. I'd have Saints at 1/3 a packer (maybe even 1/2), the Steelers at 1/4 a packer. 49er's I think 1/5 a packer.

2011-12-06 02:41:14 PM
Yeah, who got the Jake? Hanie?

But when they are at #1 or #2, Fark is full of hate and outrage.

Maybe this is old news, but I like their new layout. It's so much easier to read than before.

That being said, I still find it a hard sell to put the Ravens at #2; their offense is so inconsistent that you never really know what kind of game it'll turn out to be; the other highly ranked teams are more consistent in their offense/defense output.

2011-12-06 02:41:46 PM
Can we please have ONE freaking power rankings thread where we all realize that:

A. These rankings are ORDINAL level data, not ration level data. This means teams can improve and drop in the rankings or get worse and improve in the rankings.

B. These are not descriptions of past performance. These rankings are predictions of future performance. If you want a description of past performance, use the standings. These rankings are trying to determine who would win in a hypothetical future game, not who won in a past game. This means one team can beat another and still be ranked below the team they beat.

Seriously people. It's not farking rocket surgery. These are very simple concepts.

Hanie even failed to fail enough to win The Jake.

The Patriots, their defense is keeping them under the radar. But really, it's not as horrible as it looks...gives up many yards but not that many points.
I have a feeling the Patriots will penetrate deep into the play-offs.

It takes a special player to put together a wire-to-wire performance like that.

2011-12-06 02:46:40 PM
Not to mention Hanie wasn't even the high passer in that game - that would be Week 12 winner/conspirator Tyler Palko at a brainbreaking 157 yards.

I have a feeling it's going to be another one-and-done, and we're going to get treated to the sight of Steve Young incredulously saying "Brady and Belichick are going to be out after one game?" to Dilfer again this time next year.

They finally showed against a bad team. I think the O-coord finally was mostly beaten into submission to stop ignoring the run. It's been a point of contention all season.

In JAX - Ray Rice: 8 carries
In SEA - Ray Rice: 5 carries

I'm hoping it's a trend not a blip. Ravens are just barely over 40% run plays for the season after something like a 50 run game...

Going bell to bell in abject failure exemplifies the very best qualities that a Jake winner is supposed to uphold, yes.

When Cobb knelt for the touchback on the final Giants kickoff, I would have been willing to bet my house the Packers would win. The only chance the Giants had was a krumble.

/Did the Cardinals give a game ball to Jason Garret?

They should be able to pin an INT on a receiver. Roy Williams practically handed the ball to the Chiefs' D.

I don't like how there are trending stats in the standard power rankings list. That's too close to Di's territory. If they start graphing things and awarding "The Jake" to people, we'll know they are definitely watching Fark.

/That means they have all of our secrets!

A few of my favorite lines: Eagles, 49ers, Raiders. Bucs line makes me a little sad.

Embiggenator (new window)

Useless stats:

Change from Week 1 to this week :
One 21 point drop: Eagles
One 19 point jump: 49ers

Two teams are right back where they started: Packers (never moved) & Lions

Biggest changes from last week to this week:
Two 6 point drops: Eagles, Buccaneers
One 7 point jump: Cardinals

Number of times rankings have changed:
2 teams have changed every week: Chiefs, Raiders
1 team has not changed at all: Packers

Difference between high rank & low rank:
Lowest fluctuation: Packers with 0
Highest fluctuation: Eagles, Bills, Bengals, & 49ers with 21

Teams hitting their highest rank this week: Dolphins, Broncos, & Seahawks

Teams hitting their lowest rank this week: Eagles, Buccaneers, & Redskins

Eleven teams did not change rank: Top 7 & Bottom 4

I think the key is that they showed against a weak team, on the road, who actually has a good defense. The Browns aren't top 10, but their defense is certainly the high point over there.

Pats, Steelers and Ravens should all be locked in at this point. As well as Green Bay, San Fran and NO. Obviously there is still contention as to where they end up.

In the AFC I see the Texans holding up, the Broncos working in, and I would love to see the Titans/Bengals make it.

meh.. that Pakcers-Giants game was one Eliception from a 14 point swing.
..and Cam was 10-ish yards away from having rushing, passing AND receiving TDs.

such a weekend of coulda beens..

2011-12-06 02:59:48 PM
Sorry, but after that inspirational performance against Houston on Sunday, Atlanta should be ranked way higher. How they kept a 3rd string quarterback using a limited playbook to only 17 points is something Belichick couldn't dream of. Surely, this defense can keep the Packers under 70 points in a rematch, should the Packers be unfortunate enough to get one.

And Michael Turner is the best RB in the NFL among all backs who once played for the Chargers and are named "Michael Turner".

2011-12-06 02:59:58 PM
so i read the comments first...

damn why all the falcons hate...

clicks link... well ok the falcons moved up a spot for losing to a good defense with a questionable qb (kind of like losing to chicago)

giants lose a squeaker to the best team in the league and goes down 2.

it does seem pretty weird

/falcons are easily the 12-14th best team in the league :D

Seriously another week of this bullshiat because they put together a last min field goal drive against a terrible team.

Things don't bode well for Oakland either...gotta play in Green Bay on Sunday. I think I'll just go skiing that day

Maybe I'll just take a day off from football rather than throw up in my own mouth all afternoon.

I'm not sure, but I know it's a good thing to see him playing on the team facing yours. He was injured for the Week 2 game against the Bears this year, and the Saints only won by 17, so. With Roy's turnovers, that's a fortyburger easy.

I dunno what everyone was thinking last 90 seconds of the game. It's as if the entire offense/coaching staff just took a mental vacation

I'm still not sold on the 49ers. A victory against Pittsburgh in 2 weeks would turn me around a bit, otherwise I'm expecting a second round loss (their first game after the bye).
