They're doing that thing where the con artists start a fight with each other as a distraction to cover their escape.

I thought we knew halliburton was at fault from the get-go, but merely not legally accountable for their faulty drilling crap?

Forgive my misremembering, its been a while, and I do not recall the specifics.

ultimately it falls on the operator (BP) to approve all work and engineering. that the cement may have been faulty due to different reasons is the issue. the mix may have been bad, but also, bp decided to not use "costly" centralizers which can greatly reduce the cement's ablity to hold pressure.

How about neither? They're both culpable.

Yea, really. Why do we have to pick a side SUBBY?

Sort of like the politics tab, where if you point out the idiocy of one side, you are immediately assumed to be on the other, when in reality both sides farking suck and should be called out when warranted.

Based on my Business Law class in which I got a B, BP is responsible for the information regardless of Haliburton's actions. The US only has to deal with BP. BP can sue Haliburton for damages.

"The first trial over the disaster is scheduled to start 27 February in New Orleans. It is expected to last three months and determine the liability of each company involved in drilling the Macondo well. There will be other phases over cleanup costs, punitive damages and other claims."

Can we combine both of these answers and wipe out all the politicians with a meteor somehow?

The cement job that Halliburton did failed. At the high level BP is at fault, they hired Halliburton so they are on the hook for all the damages. What BP is trying to do is recoup some of the costs from Halliburon like they did with Anadarko. Whether or not the contract between BP/Halliburton allows them to hold Halliburton culpable is what we don't know. It will be interesting to see if Halliburton really did destroy test results during the testing process as has been alleged / testified to (new window).

To Haliburtons credit, they did create the evidence in the first place.

Yeah, me too. BP is actually running commercials around here talking about how great the Gulf of Mexico is, and how everybody should come visit. They had a bunch of business owners in them, all smiling and lolling around in the sunshine. Yeah, no way those people would be biased, right?

It looked so nice I almost barfed.

See, I read those stories. I get that. You just turn your ship around, punch the blob in the blobby part with the ship's bow, and go home and write a magazine story about it. The drill is the ship, the oil is the blob, and the bacteria ate Cthulhu faster than science predicted. I get it.
