Everyone on fark is a hipster. Hipsters love hating on hipsters. So you are one.

2011-12-06 01:23:51 PM
Don't you have to be hip to be a hipster?

Baby boomers can also be hipsters. People have been calling other people hipsters for decades.

Yeah I think that term has been around since the early 1930's.

I recognize all of those words as English, but the order that they are in makes no sense at all.

This I know. I would go so far to say that most artists have always been considered hipsters, especially in times of new art 'movements'.

I love the fact that there is anti-selling out twitter hashtag.

I like Bon Iver, and I like whiskey. I really don't see the problem here.

Haters gonna hate.

FTA: 'To which the Avalanches responded, "actually vodka is more my thing, but this aint no rock n roll pissing contest. i have seen alcohol destroy many families ... including my own'

Sooo...because some dude couldn't control himself and screwed himself up, no one else is allowed to advertise for alcohol?

What a dick.

"I gave myself carpal tunnel syndrome with my bad typing habits. Keyboards need to be banned from everybody."

Seems like Bushmill's would be right up the hipsters' alley... It's pretty out of the mainstream as liquors go, at least where I do most of my drinking...

2011-12-06 02:51:15 PM
was that english? I recognized the words but cannot figure out what the point of that is.

This isn't very complicated. Bon Iver criticizes artists for desiring a Grammy, while at the same time shilling for a corporation. Avalanches scratch head, ask 'WTF', point out hypocricy.

The Avalanches > Bon Iver

2011-12-06 02:53:05 PM
Never heard of either of them until now....

2011-12-06 02:54:34 PM
Wait, that guy's known outside the state? I always figured him as just some guy the tourism board dragged out so they could say 'No, really, look, Wisconsin has homegrown musicians too!'

The Avalanches??? THE AVALANCHES?! Where have they been hiding for the last ten years?

Solid State Vittles: The Avalanches??? THE AVALANCHES?! Where have they been hiding for the last ten years?

Well their new album comes out next year so hopefully in the magical land of rainbows and sunshine and wherever they made Since I Left You.

""actually vodka is more my thing..."

You know who else's thing vodka is? 17 year old girls. Man up and learn to drink some booze.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE A SELL-OUT WHEN: You charge people money to come hear you play your songs. Live it or leave it "artists / part-time Kinko's employees."

2011-12-06 03:09:37 PM
Consume a bottle of Bushmills then listen to some Bon Iver. You'll quit one or the other I'm guessing.

/likes bon iver but that is some maudlin stuff there....

The only terms I understood in the first paragraph of that article were "Grammy Awards", "advertisements", and "liquor". And I don't care for two of those three.

2011-12-06 03:13:11 PM
If I have to ally with the hipsters to protect my liquor, so be it.

/but they are not picking our uniforms

Bushmills is very good Irish whiskey. More malt alcohol than Jameson, so less sweet. Bon Iver I've never heard of.

2011-12-06 03:20:18 PM
I thought Bon Iver had officially graduated to sellout because of their Grammy nominations...or do they have to win in order to graduate to the much more hated sellout phase?

Gosling: Wait, that guy's known outside the state? I always figured him as just some guy the tourism board dragged out so they could say 'No, really, look, Wisconsin has homegrown musicians too!'

I went to high school with the kid and still didn't know who he was until other friends started posting about him on Facebook.

I wanted to say Hey! Wisconsin has bred lots of famous musicians, but the only one I recognized on the Wiki page (new window) was Liberace. Not really helping my cause. :(

What is this douchebaggery?

Bushmills is good. Tulamore Dew is pretty good too.

Why would you not support whiskey?

I guess the one farkers old man fell off his fixie, punched his old lady, and blames the alcohol for his da's assholishness?

And the other thinks wanting awards makes you attention whore, like getting up on a stage and preforming for the adulation of others somehow makes you not an attention whore?

OK, I think I have it sorted.

Douches.

2011-12-06 03:41:28 PM
Never heard either of these bands...

...but since when is it even remotely OK for a band to attack on the basis that they endorse whiskey because:

"maan, do you know how many families that has wrecked?"

What is this, battle of the wuss bands?

Because People in power are Stupid: Don't you have to be hip to be a hipster?

Not if you're being unhip ironically.

I stood up for hipsters last year sometime, you probably didn't hear about it.

And they're from way the feck out by Eau Claire too, seems like they'd be perfect for suburban Madison kids with hippie parents who never grew up. Most people I've met from out by Eau Claire wear flannel because they think Red Green is the height of hilarity.

Not me, my friend. Too old, and my tree-trunk thighs make the girl-pants part of the uniform just absolutely out of the question.

Bon Iver... the hipster version of 90s-era Bon Jovi?

Grammy's are a load of bs anyway. Alcohol is fun.

I love Bon Iver. Also, Bushmill's. I didn't know this made me a hipster, but if it does, then I don't want to not be a hipster.

2011-12-06 04:22:26 PM
I like alcohol.

2011-12-06 04:25:03 PM
Alcohol didn't destroy your family, you twit. Someone's poor choices or lack of self control did. Look inward.

What about people who prefer Maker's Mark and the Shins? Should they give a shiat?

I'm just asking... for a friend.

These people are from my home town which is 15 minutes away from Chippewa Falls, and that is where Leinies is made. Also we have this: Link (new window)

So basically they are from Wisconsin and like booze, big deal.

Yeah no, we only wear flannel because its warm and we hunt and fish. Also Red Green is funny, but that isn't the reason why we wear it.

Bushmills is shiat. Powers at the bar and Knappogue Castle at home for me. Jameson and Redbreast are ok, never Bushmills.

You two are forgetting Steve Miller of the Steve Miller Band (Meh, but way famous) and Les Paul, although he is more known as a guitar maker.

After doing a little more research you have Greg Graffin, the Singer of Bad Religion; Robin Zander, singer of Cheap Trick; Dave Pirner, frontman for Soul Asylum; and Jerry Harrison, guitarist/keyboardist for the Talking Heads. The land of Cheese might not have a huge number of musicians, but you have your fair share.

/Not to mention all of the studio musicians and blues/jazz/pokla artists
