The confrontation as described is unfair. As an opponent of legal recognition of same-sex unions, Mrs. Bachmann cannot be expected to possess an intellectual capacity greater than that of an eight year-old child.

"They can get married," Bachmann insisted. "They can marry a man if they're a woman. Or they can marry a woman if they're a man."

fark you fark you fark you.

That's saying, "you can get married, just not to the person you love." I hate Bachman so much. She is a dark stain on the state of Minnesota.

You can't fake that look. It was one part shock and one part fear.

Anyone still fighting against gay rights is a segregationist from December of 1963. You're over. Your bigotry has failed and you're over. Move on to the next evil thing you want to do.

Dimensio: The confrontation as described is unfair. As an opponent of legal recognition of same-sex unions, Mrs. Bachmann cannot be expected to possess an intellectual capacity equal to, or greater than that of an eight year-old child.

A little amendment for ya. That kid was on a level superior to Bachmann.

This is why a socially conservative agenda like Bachmann's is completely unsustainable...

Because younger people just don't care...

Your correction is appreciated, as my statement could be interpreted incorrectly without the addendum.

Opposition to same-sex marriage, much like advocacy of many forms of gun control, is indicative of below average intelligence.

What world does this woman live in that she's shocked and surprised that people are gay? She honestly looked like she was afraid she'd catch something from this kid.

Look. There are gay people. They exist and they will continue to do so. You are allowed to dislike the fact that gay people exist, but when you don't ACCEPT the fact that gay people exist, you are take stupid to a new level.

Is "hold the gun with both hands" considered gun control?

"In April, 2005, a few dozen people showed up at the town hall for the April 9 event, and Bachmann greeted them warmly," a profile by Michelle Goldberg at The Daily Beast states. "But when, during the question and answer session, the topic turned to same-sex marriage, Bachmann ended the meeting 20 minutes early and rushed to the bathroom. Hoping to speak to her, [Pamela] Arnold and another middle-aged woman, a former nun, followed her. As Bachmann washed her hands and Arnold looked on, the ex-nun tried to talk to her about theology. Suddenly, after less than a minute, Bachmann let out a shriek. "Help!" she screamed. "Help! I'm being held against my will!"

"Conservatives" stand proudly on the wrong side of history. Always have. Always will. It warms my heart to know that someday Bachmann's ilk will be looked upon with the same mixture of curiosity and disgust that is currently reserved for the Ku Klux Klan.

Conservatism is nothing but a amalgamation of all the failures in human brain chemistry that make democracy impossible.

2011-12-06 11:05:08 AM
"They can get married," Bachmann insisted. "They can marry a man if they're a woman. Or they can marry a woman if they're a man."

That particular "answer" really is the height of complete cock-ishness from the anti-rights crowd. It ensconces every possible dickheaded facet of the entire movement in one complete, smug little package. It conveniently ignores the entire point, it disrespects the questioner, it disrespects the subjects of the question, and it revels in its own ignorance by pretending that its brazen stupidity is some sort of clever genius.

It really is the ultimate "gym in 26 minutes" of political responses.

Last week, another young activist, Jane Schmidt of the Waverly High School Gay-Straight Alliance in Iowa, pressed the candidate on why same sex couples couldn't get married.

"They can get married," Bachmann insisted. "They can marry a man if they're a woman. Or they can marry a woman if they're a man."

Because nothing screams "SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE!" quite like marrying someone you could never love.

2011-12-06 11:05:39 AM
I don't believe Michelle Bachmann is a legitimate candidate for any office higher than "local dog catcher", but I don't think this qualifies as good parenting. Your child should not be used as a publicity stunt to further your political or social agenda.

It's like saying Christians would still have freedom of religion if we outlawed all places of worship except mosques.

They have the same religious rights to worship at a mosque that we all have. Why do Christians want "special rights"?

Bachmann is a moron of the first rate - everyone here agreed?

OK, now, the kid's mother...needs to be (almost) equally ridiculed. Keep your 8-year-old kid out of politics you twit. You need a messenger, go call western Union.

I find it offensive that a parent would manipulate their young, impressionable child and use them as a tool simply to make Bachmann look like the closed-minded intolerant loon that she is.

2011-12-06 11:07:22 AM
Way to use your kid as a manipulative political tool.

Kind of like when one parent uses a child to "get back at" the other parent.

This whole "Everyone has an equal right to marry someone of the opposite sex" argument. Do they think they're being clever?

I mean you could flip it around and say gays don't want the "special right" to marry people of the same sex. They want everyone to have the right to marry someone of the same sex.

I'm sure the usual suspects will be in here soon to decry the use of a child for trolling, I just want to say: all's fair in love and war, and Republicans like Bachmann have declared war on love.

This sort of thing is only going to get more common, until eventually social conservatives won't be able to appear in public without being openly and aggressively challenged on their evil beliefs. And that will be a glorious day.

Eight year olds are alot smarter and alot craftier than you think, its very possible that the kid came up with this himself.

You know, I can see why its distasteful to some that this child was used to send this message. However, the child has probably had to defend his mothers for years now, BECAUSE of asshats like Bachman telling people that harassing him is "god's will".

Defending his gay mommy is, unfortunately, something the kid had to learn young.

pretty sure when i was 8 if someone called out my mom as being a bad person, i would have said something too. calling out a mother is always going to get a response.

Zerochance: This is why a socially conservative agenda like Bachmann's is completely unsustainable...

we need to stop calling it conservative and call it what it really is- reactionary. i guess it might seem like splitting hairs, but these people are just looking to keep things they way they are- they are actively looking to return them an earlier and less civil time

It's a Sunshine Day!: While I like seeing Bachmann mentally incapacitated, I get the feeling that the kid was sent up there by his mom to deliver the 'gotcha' line. I hate when people use their kids like that.

Because there's no way at all that an 8 year old child would have the capacity to love and mental ability and desire to express that love for his mother to a person who considers his mother to be an enemy of the state.

2011-12-06 11:10:58 AM
Everyone trashing Bachmann needs to appreciate the literary contributions she's made (albeit under her husband "Richard"s name)... Most modern day horror story authors could learn a lot from this work.
