No, you won't be finding any of those around Petco any time in the next few years.

A winning season at Petco? That's rich!

Yeah, it's not like the Padres won 90 games and finished 2 games out of the playoffs in 2010.

Ancient history, man. Last year was an embarrassment, and so far next year is looking worse. The 2011 Padres had no bats, but at least they had a decent pitching staff. Now they're dismantling that.

They'll never have bats in that stadium. No one who can hit will want to play there.

No argument here, underpinning the need for an effective pitching staff. They didn't really have any bats other than Gonzales in 2010, but even when they were only getting 3 runs per game, they were only giving up 2.3 or so. Now they're giving up 3 and getting 2, and working to trend both numbers in the wrong direction.

Maybe Randy Jones can come on board as a pitching adviser. Teach a bunch of prospects to be junkballers relying on groundouts like he did back when San Diego Stadium had its huge concrete walls. Don't let any balls get into that cavernous outfield where they usually become doubles and triples!

It's called a home run ball. I.e., when a ball travels beyond the playing field but remains between the foul poles, it's called a "home run". No such thing has ever happened for a Padre in living memory, so it's understandable why this mistake was made.

/bring in the fence!

The statue of Tony Gwynn has more hits then the 2011 Padres.

Only play day games and after-dark games.. That will greatly improve the batting performance

The San Diego Padres committed the gravest of crimes in 2010; failing to step on the Giants' neck down the stretch and choking away a playoff spot. In doing so, they managed to enable Giants fans to become even more insufferable than they already were.

For this, may they be cursed to Pittsburgh Pirates status.

If it makes you feel any better, I was at the game where they finally broke that losing streak. It was my birthday. I knew they couldn't lose on my birthday if I was at the game.

Not possible. As bad as they are historically, they have never had a losing-season streak more than 9 years. The Pirates are an otherworldly level of feeble. Hell, even the Royals have had a few winning seasons since 1993.

I think many guys would want to live in San Diego - it's just the Padres can't/won't pay people. Kinda sad, since they had some really good opportunities to put together some playoff runs a few years ago.

That sentence feels so wrong, but is apparently right.
