Organized crime has also infiltrated the gambling, narcotics, and prostitution business in New Jersey. Even some parts of the construction and tobacco industries. Why does the media continue to turn a blind eye to these goings-on?

The report found that criminals are able to infiltrate the state because of its failing regulatory system that's riddled with loopholes and seriously lacking the staff and money needed to keep criminals out of the business.

Lack of staff and money... that MUST be it.

Well both are run by unions, so both are by definition mob related.

He'll get around to beating up on the sanitation unions soon enough. Just give it time.

I think he was raped by a teacher and so he is hell-bent on crushing them. He does not seem to care about the rest of the corruption in the Garden State.

No. There is no connection between organized crime and the sanitation industry. These are just small independent businessmen trying to make a living.

Years ago an officer at Fresh Kills landfill told me they'd see a dead body about once a month or so. I asked him if they had a coroner's van standing by for all that carnage. His response? "This is a big operation. You can't stop an operation like this for something like that. The schmuck's dead, he probably deserved it."

I am not kidding.

What kind of broken brain do you have to have to think like this? They explicitly state, "we don't have the manpower to fix the problem" and your response is, "Yeah I bet you'd like to have the manpower, you greedy government people". Literally, wanting to de-fund something while at the same time complaining how ineffectual it is.

How goddamn petty does a person have to be to get to that point? Go piss up a rope and drown.

==================

When I graduated college I took a NJ civil circus exam and was hired as a trainee by the NJ Department of Labor -- Wage and Hour Compliance Division. My job would have been to follow up on complaints by workers who were being victimized by employers violating the state's wage and hour laws.

I was in training when I was laid off along with all the new hires and a number of experienced people. The Ratpublican governor at the time cut the guts out of Wage and Hour Compliance, because of "budgetary constraints". It was BS, the Gov was getting big contributions from big biz and they wanted Wage and Hour off their backs.

I think one of the biggest tragedies of that series was that we never found out what happened to that guy. I kept hoping during the final season he'd reappear and put a bullet in Pauly's head or something. There were several unresolved plot points, that one bugged me the most.

=====================

The Sopranos were based on NJ's DeCavalcante crime family. The TV characters were actually a lot more competent and interesting than the real life NJ mobsters. The DeCavalcante family were also subordinate to New York's five families and the gang that controlled Philly. The big city mobsters actually had very little respect for the DeCavalcantes, referring to them as "the farmers". The city mobsters took the lion's share of anything big that happened in Jersey, and the DeCavalcantes got the scraps. "Big" DeCavalcante heists included such things as robbing parking meters in Elizabeth.

The DeCavalcante's were literally the gang that couldn't shoot straight.

And New York, Boston, DC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, etc., etc, etc. The mob's been in control of this industry for at least 35 years.

DUDE!!! I totally agree! WTF happened to the Russian Mafia in the third season of the Sopranos? They just disappearred!?! Also, what happened to the black rappers that were in a legal dispute with Tony? I thought they were going to have a war or something? People love that show but there were so many plotlines that disappeared and each season was kind of the same. A new character shows up, he's a mafia guy from back in the day, Tony tries to get along with him but ends up killing him. Adrianna's uncle, Tony's Cousin, what's-his-name-from-the-matrix-movie, Big Puss, etc.,.

Yeah, the show got really tired after a while and I think it could have been really clever to bring back some old surprises. I ended up watching the whole series knowing about the letdown ending to see if some of those plotlines were resolved. Oh well. I don't plan on watching it again. I liked the show, but I can count on a few fingers what characters I liked. I liked Tony's cousin and Furio, I think that was about it. Everyone else I wanted to see get killed at some point. I even hoped that Tony's son wouldn't have chickened out because I was so tired of his storylines.

I agree, after the third season something changed in the series. I started watching it after it was in it's fifth season, bought all seasons and had a marathon viewing session. I stopped caring about the characters after Steve Buscemi died. I always thought Artie would be the guy that killed or betrayed Tony to the Feds. He was always a good friend to Tony, grew up with him, but Tony was a lousy friend who burned his restaurant, creepily phone harassed Artie's ex-wife, and started getting Artie involved in his criminal business. Artie knew a lot abou Tony's activities and could've turned informer for revenge.

Plus, there's the landscaping guy, who was beaten up by the old mob guy that got out of prison in the 4th season and then Paulie shook down the landscaper for protection. Something about this storyline always bothered me. This innocent guy who did nothing wrong has his business, health and life ruined by people he knew his whole life who don't even notice him after all they did to him.

The death of Adrianna was a really good episode, that woman is so pretty and I wish she was in more stuff. And Tony killing Chris after the car accident was sort of a suprise. What ever happened to the priest that hit on Tony's wife all the time?!? Furio leaving was kind of lame, not any closure and you always felt like he was coming back...with a vengeance.
