At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline dropped to $3.276 per gallon from Sunday's $3.277, AAA said.

Sweet, I can finally afford that cruise now.

What other choice do you have? Sure, there are those who think they need to drive their Canyonero 50 miles to work each day, and if they are willing to pay extra to show everybody how big their peener is, then so be it. Many people don't have a choice. They need to get to work, the grocery store, etc., and public transportation and/or walking/biking is often not an option. Many people who do need to drive also cannot afford to go out and buy a hybrid or EV or even just a more fuel efficient car. They've got you by the balls, and they know it. It's not always about choice, it's very often a matter of necessity.

They could, of course, have done the smart thing, and bought the most fuel efficient vehicle that might meet their needs, in the first place. I kinda saw this coming. When I was last in the market for a vehicle, even though gas prices were relatively low, I didn't go out and buy the biggest, most powerful thing I could afford.

Who says that they didn't? Just because you bought a practical car doesn't mean gas prices don't effect you. My wife drives a 97 Honda Civic that I bought 10 years ago when gas was still south of $2 and hybrids weren't at all practical. It still takes a bite out of your income when gas goes from, say, $2 to $4. We do well enough that spending an extra $100/month on gas doesn't completely break us, but if you're living hand-to-mouth to begin with, that can really hurt.

Why did gas in my area jump from $3.14 to $3.39 on this news?
