Oh my God. The Sox fans are going to murder him.

Especially since Buckner may have caused the Red Sox collapse. If you haven't read this yet, read it. The sheer number of coincidences is hilarious.

CHB would believe it.

Buckner's error wouldn't have mattered if the team had better hitting or pitching for the first eight innings.

2011-12-05 11:39:11 PM

It was John McNamara's fault for putting him in there, and for relying on Calvin Schiraldi and the junk he threw over the plate.

Plus if Roger Clemens had actually been effective in the WS the Red Sox would have won easily. Buckner is (for people outside of Boston) a convenient scapegoat, like Steve Bartman is for the Cubs.

People outside of Boston weren't the ones making death threats on him and his family or who forced him to move to Bumblefark, Wherever-Ville just to escape the hordes who made his life a living hell for years. Buckner was a pretty damn convenient scapegoat for people inside Boston, too.

In my experience, Sox fans here have gotten over it and remembered that he was actually a good player. He got a standing O when they brought him out onto the field a couple of years ago.

They've only gotten over it because of the WS win.

I was responding to GAT's that the people would kill him now. Red Sox fans now should understand that it wasn't all his fault and and Buckner was even honored at Fenway back in 2008.

But back then in 86? Sure people were upset at him. Although I don't know how much you're exaggerating about fans making his life a living hell. I was more pissed at Clemens because he sucked and Bruce Hurst was the better Red Sox pitcher that Series.

"Buckner" and "pick up" in the same sentence? It's more likely than you think.

The article is kinda funny. It claims that Buckner and Valentine were friends since they were drafted. I know for a fact they were friends before that. They used to date a pair of sisters in college. I know this because the girls are my mother and aunt.

I have nothing to add, except that I think the Bill Buckner episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm this season was farking hilarious.

McNamara had put in a defensive replacement at the end of each game they were winning in the playoffs. He wanted Buckner to be out there for when they won.

Blame Calvin Schiraldi and Bob Stanley. The game was tied when Buckner let the ball get through.

Or, blame Shea's big screen operators for flashing "Congratulations 1986 World Champion Boston Red Sox" before the game was over.

Anyone who hasn't forgiven him needs to do so quick. As a kid, that play made me cry and almost go over to the Yankees, and I still let it go a long time before 2004.

Besides, McNamara was the true idiot anyway.

/(plug) Read "One Pitch Away" by Mike Sowell - '86 was a crazy year.

Google "game 6 rbi baseball". Even for a Red Sox fan, this is fantastic.

Actual Headline: Red Sox cool on Bill Buckner

Did this leak over from the politics tab?

Or Gedman. Or Clemens.

Bobby Valentine wanted to bone your wife mom?

/the end.

Let Valentine build his staff. If Congress managed to get over the Len Bias, Boston can get over Bucknaaaah.

/Valentine is a good manager

Buckner on Curb was one of the highlights of the season. Guy's a good sport. Larry's horseshiat throw. (new window)

No. My aunt. Buckner wanted to bone my mom. Probably did, honestly.
