Who is financing Turkey? They've been in the news often this year, sending aid to people and being nice in general. It makes me suspicious.

/no, you can't go back to Constantinople.

How much are they? 4 doors down for my apartment here in Chicago it's $1.95 for a dog dragged through the garden, fries included.

um, they were never really going to let turkey into the EU anyways. it's like that hot girl that lets you hang around a bunch of times and maybe jokes about sleeping with you, and goes so far as to list her requirements for a boyfriend, which you nominally fulfill, except for her lack of interest in sleeping with you... in the end perhaps you decide that "biatches like that ain't worth it, i'd rather have someone who appreciates me"

/but would still hit that biatch if the chance came up. maybe after she's had a few drinks and greece and italy and spain and portugal have all done pissed her off?

Tourists.

According to wiki, in 2010, Turkey was the 7th most visited country in the world, with 27 million visitors (and has a population of 72.7 million: ratio = 0.371). For comparison, the US had 59.75 million visitors ... but has a population of 300 million (ratio 0.194). So, on a per-capita basis, the tourism industry in Turkey is nearly twice the size of that in the US. The US also makes/sells more "stuff", so tourism is only 1% of GDP, while tourism in Turkey is 10% of their GDP.

So it's important for Turkey to appear to be a nice, friendly nation.

/I've had two different sets of friends visit to Turkey in the last 18 months ... they all raved about it.

I went less than a year ago. It's fantastic. If you're interested in history or historical architecture, Turkey has better classical and medeival remains than anywhere else in Europe. The landscape is interesting (mountainous and coastal in most of the areas you'd go, odd rock formations in Cappadocia). There are beaches similar to what you'd find in Greece. If you want to see Muslim culture, this is a fairly easy one to visit without much culture shock.

The food gets old though.
