The Pill (regular): Free on prescription. Doctors may prescribe it for any woman or girl who asks.

The Pill (morning after): Free on prescription, but you have to make a trip to the doctor. Otherwise it's about 20 squid from the Pharmacist, but you have to be over 16.

The only new thing about this is that you can get it over the phone. FTA they are offering this service as a lot of doctors are on holiday around Christmas so getting the pill for free is difficult, which combined with limited hours at pharmacies over the same time will shut off contraceptive routes for women.

There are many reasons why a women would want to avoid having a child. Among them could be that they lack the ability to raise and support a child now, they are unwilling to raise and support a child now or they cannot afford to raise an support a child now. In all of those instances if the woman is put in a position where she has to have a child as a result of an unwanted pregnancy it is extremely likely there will be substantial costs that will have to be picked up by the government, costs that could be reduced or avoided if the woman was able to postpone having children until she wanted to and was able to support them.
