Not missed by anyone paying the least bit of attention.

However, I have been wondering if India is using its army as a tool of social change not unlike how the U.S. used the military as a precursor to civil rights.

i'm more pissed off on the fact we missed the boat selling India arms. Holy shiat is that a hot market.

We are properly leaving Pakistan for India. Hell, we should be behind India 100% in the modern world. A balance to unstable Pakistan, and a regional ally against China, plus they're somewhat Anglicized. They're a perfect ally.

"Dear Sirs:

It is with considerable vexation that I note the flagrant increase in militarized natives afoot in the Raj. While I am all for the Empire spreading its values of democracy, fair treatment and floggings across God's own globe, we must NOT allow our Lessers to feel empowered by the presence of firearms. Once such items are out in the 'wild' -- shall we say -- it takes not an inconsiderable effort to put Pandora back into her box (sort to speak). I shall be sending a stern note to the House of Lords forethwith.

No, no, no, that's not right, we don't need to choose sides.

The threat of nuclear materials security and regional terrorism caused by insecurity in Pakistan is a greater immediate and physical threat to the United States than probably anything else out there. In order to solve that threat, part of the solution will eventually have to involve getting the Indians and the Pakistanis to a position of trust at the negotiating table, so they can talk down their nuclear ambitions.

Weighing in on the Indian side abruptly reduces the chances that will ever happen. Because the U.S. is so scared of pissing off the Indians, they won't even take an active role in bringing the two back to talks over Kashmir. Compare, for example, the role of the United States in mediating conflicts elsewhere and you'll immediately see the level of deference afforded the Indians is both unique and bewilderingly counter-productive.

Besides, there is no need to engage the Indians in order to build up a regional counter-weight against China. The Indians will balance against China by default, there is no need to encourage them to do so.

The White House has been quietly waging the toughest-ever campaign on undocumented immigrants. As of October, almost 1.2 million people had been deported under the Obama administration, compared with about 1.5 million over the eight years of George W. Bush's presidency. The administration has also been cracking down on the employers of illegal immigrants. Twice as many businesses were investigated in the first year of the Obama administration as in the last year of Bush's term.

And these facts the GOP really hopes you keep missing.

Chicken vindaloo sucks. Indian food in general sucks. The only food coming out of India that's good was brought by the Mughals (tandoori chicken, kabobs, naan, biryani) who were Muslim conquerers.

|While we are at it, India sucks too. India will never fark with Pakistan because China has our back. Which is great when you have bullies like the US and India teaming up on you. Plus Indians are big time pussies and will never fark with Pakistan. If they were going to they would have after the Mumbai attacks which they planned themselves.

Nah they are too scared of China to attack Pakistan, and so are you Americans.

From the article:
"India is now the world's largest weapons importer, according to a 2011 report by arms watchdog SIPRI, accounting for 9 percent of the world's international arms transfers -- most from Russia -- between 2006 and 2010. India will spend an estimated $80 billion on military modernization programs by 2015, according to an estimate from the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies. "

Meanwhile.....

Poverty is widespread in India, with the nation estimated to have a third of the world's poor. According to a 2005 World Bank estimate, 41.6% of the total Indian population falls below the international poverty line of US$ 1.25 a day (PPP, in nominal terms ₹ 21.6 a day in urban areas and ₹ 14.3 in rural areas).[1] A recent report by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative states that 8 Indian states have more poor than 26 poorest African nations combined which totals to more than 410 million poor in the poorest African countries.

IIRC, it's from a real letter from a century ago that prompted the authorities to install proper toilets either in trains or train stations in India. The original letter was being kept in an Indian museum.

The sense of communal harmony between Hindus and Muslims in the post-partition period was compromised greatly by the razing of the disputed Babri Mosque in Ayodhya.

In 2001 a high profile attack on the Indian Parliament by Islamic militants created considerable strain on community relations.

Some of the most violent events in recent times took place during the Gujarat riots in 2002, where it is estimated one thousand people were killed, most allegedly Muslim. Some sources claim there were approximately 2,000 Muslim deaths.[94] There were also allegations made of state involvement.[95][96] The riots were in retaliation to the Godhra Train Burning in which 50 Hindus pilgrims returning from the disputed site of the Babri Mosque, were burnt alive in a train fire at the Godhra railway station.

There was widespread communal violence in which Muslim communities suffered. In these riots, the role played by chief minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, and some of his ministers, police officers, and other right wing Hindu organization has been criticized. Narendra Modi was even accused of genocide.

In 2010 Deganga riots began on 6 September when an Islamist mob resorted to arson and violence on the Hindu localities of Deganga, Kartikpur and Beliaghata under the Deganga police station area. The violence began late in the evening and continued throughout the night into the next morning.

The solution to #2 is obvious. Surrender Europe to the Brits, let them rule it for a few years then fight a war of independence and set up a new United States of Europe.

Worked once.
