And yet it was the receivers that were the worst offenders. 3 OPI calls and a facemask? A hand to the face with a ref in front of you, at the 1 yard line no less? Putting your hands on the ref? It's become a league wide joke to bait the lions into penalties and we still don't get it.

Tiger Woods wins a tournament, and the Lions look and act like losers.

The Sports Universe has evidently realigned itself back to normal.

Don't forget that the anemic Bears O-line showed up yesterday as well.

In fairness, nearly the entire offense was horrible.

And the Saints world is thanking them for it this morning, as New Orleans' defense looked totally disinterested in playing the second half. As if they assumed that a 17-point lead was insurmountable because Drew Brees.

They got nothing on the Washington Redskins for high school level playing.

A hole in the space-time continuum whereas the receivers are actually catching passes thrown by John Elway

Isn't putting your hands on an official grounds for ejection.

I can remember a long time ago, Walter Payton got ejected for putting his hand on the back of an official to complain about a call.

2011-12-05 10:11:32 AM
Yeah, it sucked... the Lions were frustrated once again... it didn't help matter that the Saints were getting away with some pretty obvious holds, and probably a lot worse things we didn't see as the refs pretty much turned all their attention to the Lions.

If not for the undisciplined, obvious crap the Lions were guilty of, I could probably rant about how the officials were giving the game away to the Saints (as they did in the Packers' game, except again, "Suh-pidity" overrules that complaint). The only way the Lions will get any justice on the lopsided refereeing they have been seeing is to keep their cool and stop giving the refs the obvious stuff to call (and thereby distracting from all the non-calls and questionable stuff)

They say a team takes on the personality of its coach. Well, it's pretty clear from the handshake incident against the 49ers that Schwartz is an overaggressive, meatheaded, moronic reactionary so it's no surprise that his team acts the same way. It's ok to be aggressive and mean in football but there's a time and a place for that. The time is between the snap and the whistle and the place is anywhere where the ref doesn't see it.

2011-12-05 10:13:33 AM
Oh, and

Throw a couple of key interceptions? Yep Nope

One interception, when the game was essentially decided. Bad subby, no biscuit.

2011-12-05 10:14:26 AM
Oh, and in case everybody missed it, Suh got in trouble again Sunday for stomping again (new window)... even being suspended!

You can't make this stuff up, people!

The Packer game was badly called all round, it was not lopsided against the Lions. There were missed calls on both sides, calls on stuff that clearly didn't happen, etc. The big difference was that the Pack, and this week the Saints, did not take stupid penalties. Pushing a ref, punching a guy in the face after the whistle in the refs face and taunting a guy by throwing the ball at him after the whistle are just beyond stupid. If you take penalties like that, you deserve to lose. Oh and if you get 2 OPI calls, keep your damn hands down and don't give them a chance to call a 3rd on you, they obviously don't agree with your idea of reasonable contact. I thought they were mainly BS calls, but the ref is always right.

Nope, you're right - he threw one interception. My bad.

i have nothing important to add, so... who dat!

I think the saints would have won either way, but the Lions just knocked themselves out of the competition.

As a Saints fan, I wish the game would have been decided by talent instead of emotion/penalties. It makes the win feel diluted. not to mention, it would be nice for the saints defense to realize it needs to step up the game a little, because we're not going to get 15 yard penalties in the red zone against anyone else.

The offense sleepwalking through the third quarter kind of bugged me moreso than the defense benefiting from a lot of stupid penalties by the Lions. I'm somewhat more concerned about the Titans this week now that Johnson seems to have come around. The offense can't put up any goose eggs on the box score this weekend.

All I really have to say about that mess of a game is that Raiola may now be my favorite player.

To be fair, the Saints dropped about 4 before finally snagging the one, but those don't show up on anyone's stat sheet.

Surprise. Surprise.

The Lions are just imitating their limp dick coach who couldn't handle the grip of a real man in Jim Harbaugh.

What a bunch of meanies those refs are, throwing flags on players putting on their hands on them and not immediately ejecting them. Christ almighty, coach, players, and fans take after each other.

Fact that the Texans are #1 seed in the AFC should prove the obvious, that the Mayans were correct and the end of times is upon us.

yeah, I was surprised that penalty wasn't worse. I mean, the ref was breaking up some already unpleasant business going on, but it looked like he had no intention of throwing the flag until he got pushed.

who pushes a ref? That's up there, intellectually, with attacking a cop.

Pretty much this. Some of the Lions need anger management or something to help them keep their cool. Not all of them, I saw at least one player yelling at the guy who threw the punch right before a commercial. I realize it's a physical sport, but you gotta be able to control yourself between plays.

pute kisses like a man: who pushes a ref? That's up there, intellectually, with attacking a cop.

As a fan, my answer after this latest in many debacles would be to suspend the entire team. For the rest of the season.
Start with HCF, through Mayhew, Gym Shortz, end even make the water boy sit out.

Maybe we can find another local team to root for - how is that Indiana NFL team doing?

Well, at a quarter into the season it looked like sports world was about to implode to insanity.

49ers, Raiders, Texans, Lions, and Bills all in the playoff picture (none have made it since '02 with the latter 2 not since '98 season).

Well, Lions have crashed and burned, though it doesn't help that they have to play the packers twice. That was half their losses right there. And losing to the Saints is nothing to feel ashamed about. But the mental errors and childishness WILL kill their season unless they right it quick.

Bills just suck.

Raiders, wtf happened this past week?

Texans and 49ers... congratulations on not crashing and burning.
