Speaking about being forced to choose between his life or her own, she said: 'Faced with the choice of him or me, I chose me.'

Good choice.

We shouldn't kill people if it can be avoided, but you don't have to let people kill you.

Yeah, that can't possibly be close to true, even for Her Majesty's armies.

I don't know if you notice, but the Daily Fail was writing about a British medic, and I assume the article was only referring to the British Armed Forces.

Besides, the Russians had some very good women snipers.

Benevolent Misanthrope: Definitely no.

Hell to the no.

Even in the 20th century, some of the best snipers were women.

Too bad she didn't focus on doing better in high school, then maybe she could have gotten into college and not been put into that position.

Took her seven shots to hit a guy FIFTY FEET away? With a RIFLE?
Should've just thrown her purse at him!

There was an army of women (new window), mustered by a pair of sisters, who rebelled against the Chinese in the 1st Century... Some women in the army gave birth on the battlefield... And this is off the top of my head, there are probably examples from even earlier...

So you're telling me that no woman before this woman has ever killed a soldier. That doesn't sound right.

Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester is the first female soldier since World War II to receive the Silver Star medal for valor in combat

so clearly a female soldier got the silver star in WWII ...
my guess is that we need to go back to the beginning of time and the first war.
Here is a question for the bible thumpers: When was the first war?

(everything is in the bible right?? and there wasnt any history before the bible ...)

Elaborate? Description of weapon usage?

Drug-crazed? She knew this, how?

He knows the odds? She is privy to his thoughts?

Lame fake record is lame and fake.

It's neat that a US chick in uniform killed an enemy, but it's also kind of lame to herald it as the dawn of a new age in blah blah blah when there's statues to women like Boudica, who did a lot more impressive martial feats than just killing one guy in combat.

Admittedly, it's more guys than I've killed. That doesn't mean it's special.

I keep trying to find the 'technically yes but in actually no' angle here that could possibly let them run with 'first female soldier to kill in combat'...

It's just not there.

Dwarf fortress is only obscure for the unfortunate folks who haven't played it, or at the very least read about boatmurdered (new window)

/I've been getting the urge lately to torture raise some dwarves again. I need to make a fortress once every year or two or I get the shakes.

Probably not even the first British woman to kill in this war. Don't they have women traveling on convoys, and don't convoys come under fire?

never really figured out why the celts get this awesome reputation as warriors.

at their peak before Rome started kicking their butts they spanned from iberian peninsula to turkey. then the romans started expanding and pushed them to the fringes of europe, with the encroachment of the germans finishing off most of the pockets the Romans missed.

i mean, who knew that dying your skin blue and making your hair stand up with chalk and fighting as individual warriors in the nude instead of as organized groups of soliders wouldnt get you far agasint the disciplined professionals in the Roman Legions?

I think this is a little more heroic story (US Army)...but proves that woman can do just fine in combat if they so choose to serve in that capacity.
