At least we won't have to worry about the mammoth eating a lawyer hiding out in the bathroom.

It will be a big money maker for the zoo that gets a mammoth to show off.

Probably closer to what elephant meat tastes like. And the most common answer that I've found for what elephant meat tastes like is that it's similar to moose or elk. With a real gamey taste and a stringy texture.

Yeah, but there is probably a downside too.

I'd rather they clone Scrat. That squirrel is hilarious.

I would eat it. My wife has already mentioned this idea over the years and I approve of it. And we could shave them in the summer and sell the hair!

Now, if they clone mammoths, what will be the rules about mammoth ivory? Currently, you can import mammoth ivory into the US, but not ivory from elephants (or walrus . . .walruses?. . . .walrussesses? . . . walri?). Of course, this mammoth ivory is ancient, from long dead mammoths, presumably killed and eaten by our ancestors - but I wonder what will happen when the ivory is from cloned and recently killed mammoths.

/I wanted a walrus tusk for a knife handle, for a knife I'm making.
//But, it can't be (legally) imported.
///I looked at mammoth ivory, but the quality sucked and the prices are very high.
//Mammoths: finally something useful to do with Siberia.

Fluorescent Testicle: Which movie, Attack of the Five-Cocked Soviet Rapephant?

Subby might be talking about this Sci-Fi movie of the week made something like 5 years ago about a killer mammoth. It was actually decent compared to their usual shlock; Nathan Fillion was in it and it featured a possibly undead Mammoth that was quite sneaky.

So, I can't for the life of me find powdered mammoth tusk. Never seen it sold by vendors, never seen it on the body of a mammoth, although to be fair I've only killed a few.

Japan - Lets clone a mammoth.
Russia - Why a mammoth?
Japan - Well this is rather embarrassing to admit.
Russia - What is?
Japan - Well we seem to have misplaced our Godzilla DNA sample.
Russia - I see...
Japan - So lets do this thing!
Russia - Very soon, Mammoth clones YOU!

moistD: Mammoths

True, but there are a few theories as to what caused their extinction. A combination of climate change and overhunting by Homo erectus seems to be one of the more popular theories. If that is correct, then early man was partially to blame for their extinction, something you can't apply to the dinosaurs.

I can do that too. Do a GIS for 'dittybopper' and 'atlatl'. I can even knap the projectile points for the darts out of flint.

I said that specifically because I know about your hobbies. You're the only person on Fark who I am sure is even more knowledgeable about and proficient with archaic technology than I am!

Why not try out bronze weapons for hunting them too? I mean, if you're going to be chucking pointy sticks and all.

Pshaw. You may as well ask why Civil War reenactors don't use M-16s and Striker FSVs.

I joked with my dad about commissioning him to make a 'tacticool' flintlock longrifle, with Picatinny rails, a red-dot sight, bipod, black plastic thumbhole stock, etc. Would be funny to show up at a reenactment with something like that.
