I totally agree, but the problem facing the Food Network is that almost everything under the sun has been grilled, seared, chopped, glazed sauteed, broiled mashed, and fried on that network. You have everything from useful information like Good Eats to the creepy suburban soul sucking stepford wife (Sandra Lee) and everything else in between. I honestly just do not know what else you can teach on TV without making it a lot more advanced, which just would not work.

Simply put: they wont. As much as I love food and the restaurant biz, I simply could not sit through a 4 hour long show on sauce making. Also, the Food Network is pretty neutral on its stance of ingredients...no one gets to preachy about organic, sustainably and so on. Even though shows about those topics would be interesting at least to me, they run the risk of sounding like a tree hugging/let's save the whales network to the masses.

Its been shiat since they turned it into 24 hour game shows, with the odd "fat guy eats greasy food and tells us how awesome it is, bro" show.

I like Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It's a refreshing alternative to the chef competition shows (Cupcake Wars? For reals?). Everything else I gave a pass to. I will say that woman who pwned Flay on the Thanksgiving competition was excellent. You don't bring your piddly Tex-Mex roots to a fight where the other chef wrote a farking BOOK on cooking turkeys.
