I would like people to pay their share of taxes. Tax payments go to fund roads, education, the military, the social safety net and many of the other things that are required for civilization to exist. The existence of civilization is a prerequisite for the success of a capitalist economy.

And yet the GOP wants to eliminate taxes on those who benefit most from the existence of civilization. The loonies who have taken over the GOP actually do want other people to pay for their stuff. Bachmann is simply projecting.

I would like to see a resurrection of the CCC. That would put a lot of people to work who need it, and we need a lot of work to be done.

kronicfeld: Like...an employer?

No no, like the Farm Bureau, which paid $250,000 over the last decade for her family farm.

Shame on you!. How could we get the US Highway system built if we all talked like that?

You know that mangy dog that barks a lot and runs around the neighborhood, pooping on everything and snapping at kids? Stop feeding it.

Not one OWS protestor received one cent of the $5 trillion dollar bailout like the people who pay her to say that did.

They were talking about something like that yesterday on Ring of Fire (I think it was). It's a very good idea.

Good, I'm glad to hear this, because you just don't hear this idea floated by anybody.

"The strength is not with Occupy Wall Street," she said on CNN's "State of the Union." "If you go to the essence of what Occupy Wall Street stands for, it's having other people pay for their stuff."

you mean like banks and auto manufacturers?

ooo...and sports teams. how many times has a rich, well funded sports organization forced taxpayers to pony up the cash to build a stadium...?

I agree. I expect billionaires and corporations to pay quite handsomely for the system that keeps them safe and able to continue amassing wealth. I expect them to pay for the roads that carry their underpaid workers to their workplaces. I expect them to pay for the educational system that allows the society to perpetuate itself. I expect them to pay for the military, the police, and the regulatory agencies that keep the borders safe, keep the international tensions down to the level that international trade and consumer spending continues at a high level, and keep the environment safe enough that laborers aren't poisoned by the air they breathe or killed by their working conditions.

You're exactly right, Congresswoman. I do expect people to pay for their stuff. And those people who have a lot of stuff should be paying a lot more for the system that allowed them to amass all that stuff.

I rather like Alan Moore's write-up on OWS:"As far as I can see, the Occupy movement is just ordinary people reclaiming rights which should always have been theirs. I can't think of any reason why as a population we should be expected to stand by and see a gross reduction in the living standards of ourselves and our kids, possibly for generations, when the people who have got us into this have been rewarded for it; they've certainly not been punished in any way because they're too big to fail. I think that the Occupy movement is, in one sense, the public saying that they should be the ones to decide who's too big to fail. It's a completely justified howl of moral outrage and it seems to be handled in a very intelligent, non-violent way,"

2011-12-04 05:42:44 PM
you know what i want other people to pay for?

Their own goddamn mistakes.

That means saying things like "Nice economy you have here. Be a shame if we failed and took it down with us." should be punishable by death.

No she means she doesn't understand why when somebody takes an Occupiers stuff the Occupier would like to get paid for it. Why is the 99% complaining about having their homes and pensions stolen? Don't they know their place?

Bah killing people is messy and expensive. Besides dying is something everyone does eventually. I just want them to give up all their assets and be shunned.

make me some tea: I would like to see a resurrection of the CCC. That would put a lot of people to work who need it, and we need a lot of work to be done.

Two reasons that will never happen.

1) it would take money away from unions so they will lobby against it heavily.
2) SLAVERY!

/seriously any time you propose making people work for money it is denounced as modern day slavery. I don't get the reasoning, but thats what happens.

as much as I think it WAS a good idea back then. I don't think it quite translates to today. in the 20s you could get a 100 guys with shovels and build a road, or a trail, or something useful. modern infrastructure requires much more skilled labor, engineering know-how, and modern equipment.

Cut wintertroll some slack, he's been really stressed out. The holidays can be brutal on that small business he pretends to own.

So is OWS. The fact that the banks got free money is one of the main objections OWS has. If Bachmann were intellectually consistent, she would at the very least grant them that as a common point.

Damn all these "(ignored: shiathead)" posts... blank spots all over the place. How the fuck can someone run a business and post all day and night on Fark??? From his office computer, you say? Maybe that would explain why he constantly complains about his business being in the shithouse.
