I don't find it so odd. Sure they're opposed to giving handouts. The majority of them are also opposed to actually researching the people they claim to stand for them. Of course that applies to the majority of people in general, but this bunch really does seem to relish their ignorance of anything but bite sized talking points a great deal.

As one of Fark's few resident Pagans, I'd just like to say that the joke "I'd call her a nutjob but that would give nutjobs a bad name" actually applies when you call Christine O'Donnell a witch. There's a group of people that use that word as a label and we couldn't stand her less for attaching it to pseudo-Satanic practices in her bullshiat stories of her youth, and then campaigning with said bullshiat.

She may need a house dropped on her but that's because she's an insane would-be politician, not because of witchcraft.

I've noticed that with evangelicals and their "Paul on the road to Tarsus" stories. They always talk about how cartoonishly evil the religions or groups they belonged to before were, as if there even existed a cabal of atheists who wanted to exterminate all Christians or a pagan conspiracy, led by Satan, to hex children or give them poisoned candy on Halloween.

I guess that one of those lost commandments that Mr. Puffington always talks about makes it okay to bear false witness in order to make your conversion story more interesting.
