Culture, intelligence, creativity, and good taste.

Look, all year pre-teen girls, teenage girls and moms who like Twilight have to deal with mindless action films and gross out stoner comedies that specifically aimed at the male population. Now, it's their turn. This is the female version of a Transformers movie. Let them enjoy their mindless, shallow film. It's not like these types of movies come out every month.

People are enjoying a movie that doesn't interest me at all. I am enraged.

Yep. Stolen from Reddit.

And aside from the Disney/Pixar & Mayer/Meyer problem.... it's dead on. I can't watch Up with out a dust storm in the living room.

Muppets, Martin Scorsese, and penguins

In an alternate universe, a movie involving all three of these would have surpassed Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time.

I hate to say it but I'm rooting for Hugo to flop. Stupid 3D. Let's not give Hollywood more encouragement to crank out more of these things.

One of the worst rated movies of the year squashes one of the best rated. Imagine that.

Hugo was brilliant and thoroughly entertaining. Haters can suck it long and hard.

3D is just entertaining; you don't need to write a goddamn criticial dissertation on it.

Hugo was easily the best use of 3D I've seen yet. Instead of just making stuff fly out at you, he used it to show depth and scale. Besides that, it was a really fantastic movie, one of the best I've seen this year.

PEople who saw Hugo, how does it compare to the book? Did it use enough of the imagery from it to satisfy?

One of my favourite movies of the year. The 3D was AMAZING.

Meh. If anyone remembers Twilight in another year, I'd be surprised.

Maybe I'm too old, but I've never really cared to 'root' for a movie to beat another at the box office. I like what I like. If other people do, awesome. If not, oh well. There's no law that says I can't watch Hudson Hawk by myself.

Speaking of Twilight, my youngest sister just turned 29. She had a cake made with her head imposed on Bella's body and had them put edible glitter on the cake.

Same with my GF but I feel like they're part of the problem, it's like giving Adam Sandler money to make more Jack and Jills.

Note this, however:
There is exactly 1 more Twilight film to be made and several knockoffs in the next two years.

However, Muppets and Scorsese will be around for years to come.

We who favor Creativity, Story and Heart win in the long run.

I saw it in 2D. I'd put it with Scorsese's lesser works, although it was clearly a labor of love, given he's such a film history buff. But it felt flat; a straight documentary about Georges Méliès would have been more interesting.

I just saw the Muppets movie today, and it was the best Muppets movie with the possible exception of A Muppet Christmas Carol, which was awesome. I still want a Rizzo the Rat action figure with lamppost and a burning tail. It was nice to see a movie that was very low on the cynicism and very 'up'. It was formulaic, obvious, possibly even pedantic, and I loved nearly every damn minute of it. Frickin' hate navel gazing movies.

\Except for the drunk biatch behind me who loudly guffawed at EVERY SINGLE sight gag, no matter how inappropriate. I really hate watching movies in theaters sometimes.

there are a few friends of mine from highschool that are twihards now, they're in their 30s with young kids...anyway, they're always posting on facebook about how they're going to see this movie for the 8th or 9th time... this is why it won't die. people are going twice a week or more to see this tripe. ugh

Hugo started out at a low number of theaters and is gradually expanding. It also hasn't been released overseas yet. It's not going to be a huge success but it will turn a profit.
