Neil Patrick Harris said "Tranny"....TWICE! Now we've got to stand in the fishtank and sing

If that word's so offensive, why do they put it in the titles of all their porn movies? I mean, not that I watch any of those sorts of movies....

Every once in a while, they gay, gay, gays did I mention "gay"? - because they do about every 4 min. - get together to remind everybody how SENSITIVE they are, and.. yeah, I'm sort of fine with that but ffs, y'all, read any good books, lately?

I tend to be fairly liberal, but what I cannot stand about many liberals is the extreme PC nonsense. Getting offended at every little thing is being ridiculously oversensitive, and bringing every gaffe to a head is absurd. Toughen up, and learn to let shiat go.

The guy in Silence of the Lambs wasn't even a tranny. So this offends me as a movie geek.

serial_crusher: If that word's so offensive, why do they put it in the titles of all their porn movies? I mean, not that I watch any of those sorts of movies....

And why is it almost always "Brazilian Trannies?"

What is it about Brazil that produces the most desirable trannies?

2011-12-04 12:17:35 PM
Many people do not realize that the word "tr*nny" is one of the most hurtful and dehumanizing slurs that transgender people hear. Most transgender people associate that word with personal experiences of violence, hatred and derision.

Then why do the gender reassigned folks I know (admittedly, I can count the number on one hand) call themselves tranny? And not just amongst themselves.

"Toughen up" has become a lot less popular among (my people) liberals since the rhetoric was taken over by the conservaderp faction and turned to the purposes of pro-bullying, pro-war, pro-plutocracy, etc.

That's true, but when liberals make a stink about something trivial like this it leads to republicans defending more extreme non-PC behavior as also not worth causing a fuss over. Basically pick your battles.

I honestly didn't know "tranny" was a slur. People speak in terms of abbreviations all the time. The British call us Yanks, we call them Brits. I haven't seen any protest marches over that.

You'd think someone who voluntarily had his dick and balls cut off would have a thicker skin.

Whats wrong with it? I don't get the brouhaha. It's an abbreviation not a slur. I think we need to worry less about what word is used and pay attention to how it is used. There are few words that were created to be offensive and derogatory but "tranny" is not one of them.

They don't want to be called that, so I don't call them that. It's not really my concern why they don't like it; they've made it clear that they don't. Now that I know that they don't, I will try to avoid using that term.

I don't call the Tea Party supporters "teabaggers," because they have made it clear that they don't want to be called that. This is no different.

Politeness is really very easy, once you get in the habit.

FTFA The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation lauded Harris's mea culpa, noting, "It's heartening to see a celebrity of Harris' stature recognize and apologize for using the slur in such a timely manner, and for greater media attention being paid to its use. Many people do not realize that the word "tr*nny" is one of the most hurtful and dehumanizing slurs that transgender people hear. Most transgender people associate that word with personal experiences of violence, hatred and derision."

Good fark'n grief I hate GLAAD. Gay and transgender people use the word 'tranny' all the time to refer to themselves or someone else.

Yes, I'm aware that they once used that term, and I admit that I laughed the first time I saw it. They found out that it has another meaning, so they stopped calling themselves that, and I respect their preferences for exactly the same reason that I don't use the "N-word."

I think that many of the Tea Party's positions and goals are misguided and misinformed, but schoolyard name-calling is not an adequate substitute for political discussion.

Hmmmm.

In the UK it means transvestite. Not at all offensive. Hell, trannies refer themselves that as well.

Transsexuals refer themselves as 'trans' not trannies or whatever. Nobody calls transsexuals as 'trannies'. Most likely, they get called 'Big Dave' or 'Paul The Poofter'.

Oh, in any case, yeah, grow a farking pair; it too innoculous sounding to get hysterical about. Bunch of drama queens.

If you really want to use slurs and derogatory labels for groups of people, nobody can stop you. I don't understand why you would want to knowingly offend a group of people, but if that's really what you want to do, go right ahead.

Many people will think less of you, but nobody can actually prevent you from doing so.

It has very little to do with wanting to call people derogatory names and more with getting tired of the goal posts getting moved every few years. Every few years it's as if some secret group gets together and brainstorms which terms that were acceptable and already PC will be made more PC and sterile.
"Well folks I think it's time we declare the use of the words "Gay" and "Lesbian" to be non-PC because they tell you exactly which gender the homosexual is. From here on out "Differently sexual Americans" will be the preferred term."

Granted I also think people need to get thicker skins for their own sake. People are just too damned overly sensitive these days. I got picked on a ton growing up, called many a name for having buck teeth, for having hearing aids, for being a nerd who liked to read. You know what I did? I dealt with it and moved on instead of being a damned sissy baby about it. Nowadays a kid gets insulted and police get involved. It's ridiculous.
