In that case, he pleaded guilty to accidentally killing his best friend during a confrontation with another group of young men.

He served about a decade in prison and had been working hard to get his life in order at the time of the incident, his lawyer said.

I give the guy props for working a McDonalds job slinging burgers rather than taking less than legal routes for making money when having a criminal record. I just hope McDonalds doesn't change their hiring practices over this.

See, this kind of logic is dangerous.

The idea that, in the heat of the moment, your average person with no training whatsoever should somehow magically be able to cool their shiat the second the threat is stopped is just ridiculous. Adrenaline responses are different in different people. Looking at the video from the comfort of your own home, you can decide, "Yeah, blow #5 is where he should have stopped" which is a hell of a lot different then being the guy in the video, who very well could have some underlying PTSD from prison, and was just assaulted. In the heat of the moment, those 20some blows may seem like one or 2 to him.

In essence, you're arguing for a carte blanche to imprison people for defending themselves in a way that deviates from whatever the observers decide is an appropriate response, when they have ample time to sit around and analyze/rewind a video. The guy in that video doesn't have that luxury - fight-or-flight engaged and there's no turning back from that. He can't pause and replay his actions and ponder whether or not he's using excessive force. Until you are in that guy's shoes and are forced to defend yourself, you have no idea what it's like to actually be in a situation like that, and you have no idea how you will respond.

The benefit of the doubt should always lie with the innocent person defending him or herself, and not the piece of shiat who broke the law and started the incident in the first place.

You are correct, now I have and I stand corrected. Now that I see that they were over the counter before he even went to the back and I'm assuming that if they hadn't followed him all the way to the back he wouldn't have lashed out like that. As for the "metal pipe," I'm pretty sure that sounds like a mop or broom handle made of some shiatty alloy based off the sound it makes when he hits the walls and floor with it. It's the right length and you can see something white covering his hands, so I'm assuming mop. Thanks to that I'm starting to doubt if the skull fracture even came from being struck with the object itself and if it did happen during the fight it was probably from hitting the ground after going down.

Then again, I'm still probably wrong, ha.

I worked there when Winchell's Donuts was open and doing fine business (it's an insurance office now) and the KFC was bright and shiny new. I used to live in that neighborhood too.
