Perhaps a more accurate headline would be "Baby boomers already paid for the aging water infrastructure once, and won't be using it much longer, so f*ck you".

You whiny whippersnappers have obviously never heard stories about priming the pump to fill the cistern, then dragging water inside in buckets through the snow to heat it for your Saturday night bath.

My parents used to tell me those stories all the time.

They're still using it. Of course, getting Baby Boomers to pay for infrastructure is impossible, they just scream about socialism and refuse, ignoring their SS checks.

Oh goody. Another "Let's eat our parents" thread. Could we please stop attacking the other who is in the same boat, if not worse off in many cases, and focus on the real problems? Those living in poverty over the age of 65 are among the fastest growing segment (new window) of our population. Very few people are doing well right now. If we just came together, we might actually be able to change something for the better. You know, instead of getting sidetracked by infighting that only benefits the wealthiest parasites of our society.

violentsalvation: The 'blame the baby boomers' crowd is hilariously pathetic.

See, here's how I look at it. They've been in charge for thirty years. They could have realized that the infrastructure in this country desperately needs to be regularly updated and fixed. Water, roads, bridges, etc have been neglected for decades. They didn't.

Now that it's at the point of near collapse, their kids and grandkids have to pay for it. I don't mind paying for it because America's infrastructure is what helps make us great, and we all need it, but I am a little miffed that the Boomers act like they bear no responsibility for the state of it.

I think there is much more to the problem than the boomers passing the buck. Instead the bucks to replace and update our infrastructure were passed to other social programs to benefit us, the children of the boomers. Of course we now know we can shut most that sh*t down for being a waste of money and thief of freedoms. LOOKING AT YOU, DEA!

The last time you insulted me, I know its hard to remember when its all you do, by saying I didn't know how to use shampoo, you had to flee after being but into a verbal corner.

You said any company that took government funds should linit pay, I pointed out that such a statement included basically every company, and asked you if were a hypocrite on your own positions?

You never answered, yet you still persist in using the same insult.

How long have you been alive? Then by your figuring, that is how long you have been in charge, and you would be equally responsible for your portion of it.

The problem with the younger people today is that they aren't smart enough to figure out that politicians lie, divert funds to their own pet causes, and often their own pockets (If indirectly) without making people aware of it. They fall for the trap of pitting one generation against the other, instead of taking a hard look at the people in charge, and the people actually responsible for the neglect.

Did you city put in an art center instead of working on the infrastructure? That isn't the boomer's fault. Was the populace screaming for a metrorail that was funded? That wasn't the boomer's fault. You need to take another look at what the people are asking for and being granted, what is done in the name of drawing tourism to your area, and things of the sort. It isn't until the various municipalities hear people screaming that they want the infrastructure fixed that it is going to be fixed, and often at the cause of another pet project.

And if something is the boomer's fault, it is because they vote. I know... you are thinking it surely couldn't be the fault of those that don't vote.

Eh, we are a little further inland... got to play with the wildfires this year instead of hurricane. I walked a horse out of the fire (9/5), because we only had room in the trailer for 5 horses, and we have 6. Couldn't ride the old fella, because we were engulfed in smoke, and the fire trucks were blowing by doing 60 with the ir lights and sirens going, and he got a little spooky. :)

But it's all one grand adventure, as it was meant to be!

Dancin_In_Anson: GAT_00: Congrats, you just limited the pay of every bank CEO since they buy Federal loans and bonds, every defense company, and every company that has ever been contracted to work for the Federal government.

Lather, rinse, repeat. You have to read those words every morning, don't you?

Is it possible for you to do anything but insult? Yes or no, you agree with limiting CEO pay for almost every company, under the guidelines I listed?

No, because the guidelines you listed aren't bailouts. They're aspects of the law applying to broad categories of businesses, or even all businesses. Bailouts are extraordinary payouts, mostly made to specific companies. Does the fact that the Feds give tax deductions to individuals and small businesses mean they're allowed to tell them how to make a living, including how much money they're allowed to make?

Furthermore, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac aren't normal private corporations - they're directly chartered by the US govt, have direct access to credit from the US Treasury, etc. The govt has a sponsorship role that it doesn't have w respect to normal corporations. Which is why they should be dechartered and their loan portfolio auctioned off, or at least turned into entirely private lenders.

That should be fairly obvious, and you've probably posed the same supposed discrepancy before, hence the shampoo instructions comment.

Summed up simply enough that your ignorant self might even be able to grasp it. But I highly doubt it.

No, no! It's time to break out the chainsaw and cut the lifeboat in half. And drill holes in the bottom to let out the water that gets in! And we can monetize the program by selling off the survival supplies to a multinational corporation and then leasing them back! This will work--some guy with a chalkboard on TV proved it. WE CAN TWEET OURSELVES OUT OF THIS PROBLEM!

So, you think nobody can get SS before they turn 65?

Sure, one can file for SS at age 62, but a greatly reduced benefit. Your comment was a description of Tea Party supporters. Who are the tea party supporters? According to a Harris poll last month:

Tea Party Supporters
50% of Matures (those 66 and older)
36% of Baby Boomers (those 47-65)
30% of Gen Xers (those 35-46)
27% of Echo Boomers (those 18-34).

Wow, people older than Boomers, imagine that. And look, just behind the boomers by 6% are the gen xers full of facial holes and tattoos.

Who should pay to repair the aging water systems?

People who use the aging water systems. Really, how is that even a difficult question?

I like to put it all under one category: National Infrastructure. If you use it, you help pay for it. Local, state, and Federal taxes all working together. It got built, expanded, and replaced during the middle part of the 20th century, so we should be able to do the same thing here at the beginning of the 21st.

Perhaps we can kick-start it by having the US Army invade the United States, and rebuilding sewers and electrical grids to "win some hearts and minds."
