(YouTube) Amusing From MST3K's third season, it's The Castle of Fu Manchu. This painful Christopher Lee movie hilariously tests the resolve of Joel, Crow, and Servo: "I can't watch this. I mean, I can't see this"   (youtube.com) divider line 12

I don't know why it took me so long to watch this. I know why it will be a while before I revisit it

Much more so than Manos, -this- is a hard one to get through. Some you can admire/be entertained for their sheer incompetence (Monster A Go Go, for example). This ... this is the bottom for me.

After reading on numerous threads how painful this film was next to Hamlet and Manos, I decided to see it. IIRC, even TMLO has a hard time with this.

This should have been the Deep Hurting feature! The crew (and the Mads!) obviously did not enjoy this, but I managed to sit through it. Just have to get through Hamlet now.

I want my "I made it through Fu Manchu" fez, dammit

I'll say this: not counting the KTMA-23 episodes, this might have to be my least favorite episode of the series.

That said, I'll take the worst MST3K episode over the best episode of Friends any day of the week. It still has some riffs that work well under the deluge of badness.

It's not one that I can revisit often, and I revisit a LOT of MST3K episodes.

Both Manos and Monster A-Go-Go are cakewalks compared to Fu Manchu.

You recalled correctly, mammajamma.

Suffice it to say, this is NOT one to show to a MSTie in training.

Heh, I hear that!

As long as you can get past the dreary expressionistic style of Hamlet, the episode's actually entertaining. It's far from the worst MST3K effort.

Oh well. I do like Tom's ad lib of the the theme song. Fu Manchoooooooo

Tom's take on the Fu Manchu theme song *is* pretty sweet, zerkalo.

It's a strong opening, but... well, you know.

Digging a little bit more, this was the 5th in a SERIES, and apparently the rest of them are a little more respectable as this?!?!?! Wow. This was also a GERMAN film?

Plus, recycled footage from the "Notitantic" scene and the dam breaking scene.

How could Christopher Lee take such a role?

Considering how the film went (it's difficult to hash out the plot without a summary from somewhere else), I'm not surprised that the other films had to be more respectable than this.

And I actually saw that one... I remember thinking, "A Night to Remember? Why the hell is that here?"

How could Christopher Lee take such a role?

Heh, keeping those bills paid, no doubt.

Pulled up his Wikipedia entry - dig this:

"Lee has performed roles in 275 films since 1947 making him the Guinness book world record holder for most film acting roles ever."

Pretty impressive stuff, that.

disembodied Voice is currently singing the end song during the credits.

I SURVIVED

but oh my god it was bad. they point out basically everything wrong with such accuracy that you crack up, then go "wait YEAH WHAT THE FARK"

but wow... what a bad movie. god bless them for sitting through it all... even when they definitely were losing it and started naming people off IMDB

I do love the Harry Alan Towers bit, and sing it often. I also like the Mads snatching defeat from the jaws of victory at the end. I think this, Manos* and M-A-Go-Go are the only times the Mads "won"?

* They said they were sorry though.
