das-

Well, it was the only keg- reserves in the form of many, many cases had been hidden throughout the house, there was a 20 gallon jug (actually a gas tank) full of liquid crack hanging from a rope down there above the bar, and the house members and those in the know were partaking from a half barrel of magic hat up on the third floor.

Liquid crack:

1 Handle Vodka
1 30 pack Keystone
3-5 Cans frozen concentrated lemonade.

Put in large gas can, suspend from ceiling to facilitate pouring, and watch how impressed all the girls are that you have something better than plain old nasty beer in the keg.

At least he was gonna return the keg. Others would keep it for an end table.

I have four at home

Capitol Police officers examined his red Dodge pickup truck. The keg - tapped and still containing beer - was conspicuous in its blue tub.

I was getting nervous there. I have a red Dodge pichup truck with a keg in it. Thank goodness mine isn't tapped (it's empty, haven't gotten to the beer distributor for a new one yet). And I don't have a blue tub.

It's beer - big f@cking deal. I wonder if all the people in the world who feel threatened by the U.S. realize how lame we really are...

2003-10-08 04:54:29 PM
OMG, this is reported because????? it's a keg on state property, were there people sitting it the back of the truck drinking???

and because of open liquor laws? riiight, people that drink and drivve routinely have a keg in their truck, rather than a tallboy in their lap.

2003-10-08 04:55:51 PM
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

BEEEEEEEEEEEEER!

See, not all Repugs are 100% rotten.

2003-10-08 05:10:30 PM
if he forgot the keg was in his truck, how come he was charging the other lawmakers $3 apiece and stamping their hands?

Looks like the Fiefdom will be heading to Kansas soon.

/Guiness is good for you

I recall Kansas had some weird booze laws. Do you still have to have a "club" membership to buy a drink in a restaurant? Years ago my bro-in-law took me out for dinner, and showed the waiter a card before we ordered. I thought the cheap barstid was getting a 2 for 1 deal, but he said you had to buy an annual membership in order to buy booze in KS. One card worked anywhere, but you had to have one. Strange. I'm sure it cut booze consumption in half.(sarcasm)

It's a crime to have beer on state property? I don't think there's a prison big enough to hold all the college students in Kansas...

2003-10-08 05:38:37 PM
Well, if you are going to have an open container in the truck, you might as well go all the way.

Don't think they have the "club" thing anymore, but I do believe it's still impossible to buy booze on a Sunday there.

I was there for a road trip in '90 and couldn't believe it.

Idiot. Never return any unsed beer. Leftovers go in milk jugs or what evers handy. We should return to bushwhacking people like this

I've got a 2-1/2 gallon kegger that I stuff into a backpack, then fill the rest with Ice. only gives itself
away when the ice melts enough...Hooray for Homebrew!

2003-10-08 06:13:43 PM
But the question remains....how many beers in a keg?

Nope, you're thinking of Texas with its "dry counties" and "wet counties". Kansas is pretty laid back compared to that. The only thing that sucks is you can't purchase alcohol on a Sunday like at a grocery store. I can still order a Guinness with a steak on a Sunday.

Kansas also lets counties decide for themselves certain rules, for instance, quite a few counties have a "30%" rule, where 30% of a bar's sales has to go to non-alcoholic sales. Sounds horrible, and the idea is truly dumb, but the end result is you can go down to any place in Aggieville in Manhattan on Wednesdays and get fries and a hamburger for $1.

The city of Manhattan (college town, it could have been Riley County or the state that did this) decided to pass a law requiring liquor stores to have customers register for a keg. The idea is if your party is busted and a bunch of 18-19 year old freshmen were caught holding plastic cups full of Keystone, the keg owner's ass is grass. The only thing this new law has done is increase sales of the 30-packs of cans.

Looks like the keg tags have already been explained. You know I always read everything before I post.

Here's the info on booze in Kansas. Don't know which of these are state laws and which are city/county. This is how it is in Manhattan, KS (Kansas State).

1. Can't buy it on Sundays.
2. Liquor stores close at 11pm SHARP.
3. Never even heard of this "club" membership. Just order a drink and show your ID.
4. All kegs have to be tagged and registered to the person who buys it. That way, if a party is busted and minors are drinking...the person who bought the keg is farked.

Also, I don't want to hear a god damn word about our football team. I'm embarrassed enough as is. I know we blew it.

Don't know where the rest of you are in Kansas but here in KC liquor stores are open on Sundays now. WooHoo!!

2003-10-08 07:19:32 PM
damn right, baby. sunday is already our 4th busiest day. that's some nice money i've been getting back from royal liquors at 435 & state line.

2003-10-08 07:21:43 PM
we haven;'t had club cards in about 15 years at the state level. counties might be different.

The only thing that sucks is you can't purchase alcohol on a Sunday like at a grocery store.

that beer you buy in the grocery store is 3.2 beer. support your local store and get 5%.

2003-10-08 07:24:00 PM
and one more thing... now that we can take credit cards (happened about 8 years or so ago) the crappiest thing left is that from the retailer side, it's a cash-only business. anything i buy from my suppliers has to be paid for right then and there. I can't stock up for a big holiday, then pay the bill on Monday. and now that i can take credit cards, i have to keep a bunch of cash on hand all the time, because the credit card settlements take a while to get to me. that's the worst.. when i have a great weekend, but still can't buy enough on monday from my distributors to restock my store because the damn money hasn't gotten to me yet.

Quote: Jackson learned that his keg had created a small brouhaha from Jeff Russell, the director of legislative administrative services, who received a call.

Since when does one call constitute a brouhaha?

But I do, I do! I was just illustrating a point to the non-Kansan.

In Manhattan I shop at Rickel's and FranzWhite, both have treated me great over the years, now a good friend of mine works at Rickel's.

In Overland Park, now I know a Farker's place to go, 435 and State Line, I'm on 435 and Quivira.

w00t w00t for b33r.

Worng, it all depends on the county in Kansas you're in, there are dry counties with pretty odd laws here, Neosho county, Bourbon county, Allen county, Crawford county, basically every county in S.E. Kansas, north of Joplin, have dry laws from the bootlegging days, still on the books and enforced. The thing about these dry counties is that you have to buy a yearly membership to the establishment where you choose to imbibe, be it a dirt bar or fancy club, the paid members get laminated cards, and don't have to pay weekly cover-charges. Liquor stores are closed on Sundays and you can't buy beer at the gas station or grocery stores on Sunday either.... but you sure as hell can stock up on Saturday

2003-10-08 11:04:12 PM
Ok so it is a county thing, and basically what you're saying is either that you'll run into trouble if you:

a) wander more than 50 miles from I-70, I-35 or I-135

or

b) get close to Oklahoma or the Arkie side of Misery

Which in either case, means not the majority of us in

2003-10-08 11:10:05 PM
nope, not trouble, you just can't get a drink without a membership. It's like $15.00

2003-10-08 11:11:47 PM
nono... the one on 435 and state line is in MO...

my store's the one right there at college & quivira. just walk out your door. :)

Wow, that man just became my favorite legislator...Didn't think I'd ever ever say that in a million years. Amazing what alcohol will do.

Peter-

Threads probably dead, but yes, liquid crack is interesting- tastes just like fizzy lemonade (well after having a few it does). For best effect we always served it in the gas can, but if you really want the ladies to dig it, cut up some oranges and dump in some frozen strawberries. Guys dig it, too, its just that most guys will drink whatever's in front of them, and we used to have girls show up at the house who wouldn't stay if we only had beer. Liquid crack was a gauranteed cure for a sausage fest.
