And even that doesn't help. The German executive didn't have his paperwork with him, but the Japanese executive had his passport, US work permit, and international driver's license with him and that STILL wasn't enough.

If this action only warranted a ticket, then why was he arrested as well?

The mayor of the city of Leeds defended his officers, saying, "The police are instructed to follow the law as written. People are trying to use this to make the law look bad. That's not our problem. We're going to enforce the laws of state of Alabama."

I'm choking, laughing. This is priceless! He says some *people* are *using* this to try and make *them* look bad?

Because it's a badly-written law. As the article states, because the law requires either an Alabama driver's license or a driver's license issued by the country of origin, even an international driver's license can't be accepted.

In other words, the right-wing knuckle-draggers in the Alabama state legislature are to blame here. The cops aren't to blame - their job is to enforce what's on the books.

Heckuva job, Alabama. Heckuva job.

What the hell is located in Alabama other than cows and incestual bestiality orgies?

FYI children. International driver licenses are an international scam. They are issued by companies ripping you off. They are not valid in any of the 57 states or the Asian continent of Hawaii. They are also not valid in any of the 200 some odd countries on the planet. Using them will not only get you in trouble in Alabama but the rest of the entire farking known universe too.

It appears to me that Alabama is following the law and in doing so the left are revealing themselves to be the true bigots and fascists. Just see the above comments for proof. Go Alabama!

david_gaithersburg: FYI children. International driver licenses are an international scam.

All they are is a document that says the name by the "A" on European drivers license is the last name and the date listed by the "3" is the persons birthday (but won't say its day-month-year). Most countries require that you have a current valid drivers license and may want the International drivers license if its not fairly standard. I'm guessing Alabama cops are more confused about things than normal.

Valid in over 150 countries

Also, the IDP is valid in the US, you just have to have your original licence as well.

A-An IDP is not the same as an IDL, which is what is mentioned in the article.

B - As you state "Also, the IDP is valid in the US, you just have to have your original licence as well." i.e. - still a total bullshiat scam since you still are expected to carry your ACTUAL DRIVER'S LICENSE which the moron in the article failed to do.

God damn you tards on the left are thick.

The lefties confuse me mostly because they hold so many diametrically diametrically opposed concepts to be the Truth.

Example 1.
A. All corporations and their executives are evil and should be in jail
B. An executive who breaks the law in Alabama is good and Alabama is evil.

Example 2.
A. Republicans only pass laws enforcing immigration law because the hate brown people and are racist.
B. Enforcing the laws equally against non-brown people is bad and must be racist.

LOL! Baltimore? I escaped from there. I hope you're not white or a pale minority.

Places to avoid btw.

North Baltimore
West Baltimore
South Baltimore
East Baltimore
Downtown Baltimore
Places around Downtown Baltimore
Many of the places surrounding Baltimore

Stay safe.

Consider living in Frederick, Ellicott City, Mount Airy, Damascus, Clarksburg. Those areas will give you an easy commute to B'more, and easy access to the high paying jobs not in B'more once you have had enough.

FTA: "The Guardian reports that Honda manager Ichiro Yada was arrested earlier this week at a checkpoint in Leeds, Alabama, despite being able to show police his passport, US work permit, and international driver's license.

So what's this about a "checkpoint"? The only time I ever see checkpoint are those random "Traffic Twist" things used to catch DUIs and DWIs during holidays. In 50 years of driving I've only been in one of those checkpoints.

Are they common in other states? When was the last time the common, run-of-the-mill Farker was randomly pulled over to check for papers? Is it a "Hey, you look like you might be brown" thing?

I'm white. Am I exempt from them? Maybe that's it. . . .

Interestingly, there exists a third possibility. That most people with higher than room temperature IQs can hold more than 2 thoughts at once, and therefore for them there exists not a duality of thought, but plurality. Personally, I generally choose to believe any individual I meet is capable of at least that basic level of human intelligence until they say something to specifically prove themselves otherwise.

We don't need immigration laws, just let everybody in who wants to be here, right?

2011-12-03 04:11:04 AM
You know, I wanted to laugh at a stupid Alabama immigration law that wouldn't accept a guy's passport as proof of identity, but this sounds like a "carry a valid driver's license while driving" requirement...which seems kind of reasonable...no?

/except that a random police checkpoint ought not to be allowed in the first place, immigration-related or not

So just to be clear, you are saying that a permit and a license are not the same thing, right? Funny that the first item in that search comes up as permit and the second comes up as license. It's almost as if the two terms could be used interchangeably, but that's just crazy talk. Right?
