This. I may have laughed involuntarily... And then felt really bad...

They could've added a few more... Like these riot pics: Er pelliccia (new window), Bread Helmet (new window), and Angry Vancouver Rioter (new window).

Ditto. The proper term was "Snowpocalypse". The building I had to dig out the next day:

Holy crap. That Nihonmatsu picture, number 14. I know that place, and it's about a twenty minute drive from where I live in Japan. It's very odd to consider.

2011-12-03 01:37:51 AM
I've never seen crazier weather than this year. That Joplin tornado and the tsunami were like science fiction. And holy hell I remember watching that tsumani stuff live and remember just about freaking out.

Yeah. I think it may be the same road but from the other direction further down the road looking back given the grade change in the street.

Picture 20, the dog lying next to the casket of his Navy Seal owner, is one of the saddest images I've ever seen. I'm going to go hug my yellow lab now.

I agree. It looks like there's a corresponding drive way on the left hand side of the street to the house/drive way on the right hand side of the street in the before picture. I don't see any corresponding left hand driveway in the after picture.

Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake.

But I have to say it feels like this year sucked more than most years.

Plus, that guy is standing in front of a driveway (or at least not in front of a street).

Absolutely not the same location.

Joplin twister was bad (real bad), However, let's not forget the Super Tornado Outbreak (new window) that hit the South. Holy Fark.

You're right. That photo is far more evocative. Great find.

Both the doggie photos made me cry, the mourning dog and the happy little doggie wagging his tail while his owner looks at him through an isolation screen. Mind you, it was that damn #6 photo that got me crying first.

I thought the apples left at the makeshift Steve Jobs memorial were rather sweet.

Sorry, but the dogs just affect some people more. Maybe it's:

A) Photo caption states the kid made "A full recovery".

B) Dog help me, but the kid looks like a hatchet fish.

I'm glad number 5 was on there. It was really striking how the light diffused into the sky above the city that night. Very subdued, sorrowful and powerful. It was beautiful, like a higher power was reaching down to heal the city.

Also any one notice how almost ALL the gay people in the military gay pride march were wearing navy shirts. The people standing around while Obama signed the bill into law had big smiles on. One might say they were gay.

The old lady with milk all over her face is disturbing for so many reasons.

In this television frame grab from KIMT in Mason City, Iowa, slain Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson's dog Hawkeye lays next to his casket during funeral services in Rockford, Iowa.

I found that one to be incredibly touching, though some were more powerful images.

A woman rebel fighter supporter fires an AK-47 rifle as she reacts to the news of the withdrawal of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces from Benghazi on March 19.

I've never been able to figure out why people in that part of the world do that. I'd love to see the figures on how many people are killed or injured by random celebratory gunfire there each year.

Almost the entire state of Queensland was underwater at the start of the year. I'm sure they could have got a picture from there. Here (new window)

I'm sure they sell blanks for those occasions.
