Easily frightened, huh Subby? Stay in Des Moines.

2011-12-02 03:49:12 PM
Well then, subby, Touchdown Jesus and the like are conservative normalcy.

2011-12-02 04:33:29 PM
Subby has obviously never spent any time in the deep South.

Cities do not have America's strangest people. No city does. Spend one day here in Fayette county, Pennsylvania or worse yet head down into West Virginia and I can guarantee you'll see things a lot stranger than mustaches or hippies. Same goes for Crawford county, PA, most of Michigan and Ohio and probably a lot more rural parts I haven't seen myself. Damn city slickers.

Liberals are freaks out in the open. Conservatives are freaks at rest stops and churches.

We're number 4!, we're number 4!

Yay for the Peoples Republic of Portlandia!

San Juan is #8...?

Look, I know Puerto Rico is technically a territory, but referring to San Juan as an "American" city seems like a bridge too far to me.

I had to think twice as well, but yes it is.

Number 1, baby!

/That's the best headline you could come up with, subby?

This list is terrible. It just seems like a readout of populous cities that have a small handful of oddballs.

Do yourself a favor, Katrina Brown Hunt: Visit scenic Taylor MI. Breathe it all in. Absorb yourself in the melting pot of juggalos and mullets. And then come back and tell me with a straight face that New Orleans or Seattle have some "strange" people.

2011-12-02 06:25:33 PM
We're number one! I'm sure by a very wide margin.

You've been to Phoenix, right?

We waste more water than anything else trying to grow grass in the middle of the desert. We collectively know less about the history of our state than we do about the Yankees or Red Sox. We all wear jackets when it is 70 degrees outside. We cry about farms using water to grow food all while we are visiting an aquarium or water park.

Oh and we thought that Russell Pearce, Joe Arpaio and Jan Brewer were legitimate politicians. Neo Nazis and gun toting protesters outside of a presidential address are cool, but don't you dare consider that maybe we need the Federal Government for things like water- you'll be labeled insane.

What is it with those orange trees growing all around Mesa that don't actually have any fruit inside? I thought that is weird.

The Valley used to have a huge citrus industry. It has become one of our five 'C's of industry. A lot of them were cut down to make way for McMansions. If they don't have fruit, they are either out of season or out of season. Even the nastiest fruit and citrus trees bare something out here.

They bore fruit, but if you cut them open it is just mainly the white stuff inside. The actual "fruit meat" was hardly there, and dry and nasty. I just thought it was weird they would have orange trees like that all around. Maybe I just went there at a bad time could also be a reason.

this is like the list of nearest major cities to a weird city... case in point: Boulder, CO is the weird one not Denver.

2011-12-02 08:14:38 PM
"We still have a kind of hip-grunge demeanor going on around here-thrown in with business casual, business professional, and a streak of goth."

So, like any other city, then.

2011-12-02 08:14:55 PM
L.A. should easily be in the top 5. Oh, and countdown lists that show you #1 at the beginning of the slideshow really, really suck.

This. And Boulder, CO could be on the list too.

Ahhhh New Orleans,

in 1996, Valentine got obsessed with bartending while coaching in the minor leagues in New Orleans. My wife (at the time, my GF) came out to visit me. we went to a bar. since it was a Sunday, it was easy to kill find an empty bar. we ended up sitting at the bar with Bobby V tending the taps

Bobby farking Valentine, every time the door opened, he'd come out of a dark corner and check out the local talent,. He was shooting laser beams at my gf/wife as she drank her cranberry vodka, and I had my martini. It was freaking obvious as shiat.

so yeah.

my lame claim to fame. Bobby farking Valentine created the cosmopolitan while watching my wife and I drink.

the end.

Uhh....it is true.

Conservatives aka "traditionalists" aka reactionaries have always been the ones who have fought social progress every step of the way. Of course they never owned up to this, and never will. Watch. In 20 years the Conservatives will swear they were always the ones who defended the gays, not the ivory tower elitist libs who only aim to exploit them.

Conservatives value their own individuality. The individuality of others? Depends on the brand of conservative.

I've met a liberal or nine who were pretty conformist, too.

//liberal myself, just don't think it's a good broad-brush distinguishing factor.

No Hot Springs or Eureka Springs, AR?

CSS: I spent six or so weeks in Arkansas working at ANO, and toward the end of the outage decided that I was going to drive down to Hot Springs and hit Bathhouse Lane. Besides all the locals recommending their favorite establishment, I was also informed that "Ohh you'll like it there, you'll fit right in."

Note the lack of cities in flat, monotonous flyover states.
