I bought a bottle of that beer when I visited the DMZ. It was actually better than the South Korean beer I had.

If you have Netflix streaming, the Vice Guide to Travel is currently available. All of the episodes are good, but the North Korea documentary is phenomenal. Definitely worth a view.

About 4.44 USD.

Beer at the DMZ? Things sure have changed since I toured it in 1987. Do they still let you into the building where the cease fire was signed? It's situated half in each country and there was a white line painted on the walls, floor and table inside to let you know which country you were in.

Korea and Vietnam are two places I'd really like to visit... I don't know why I always feel the urge to cringe whenever I say that outloud but I'm sure grandpa's got something to do with it.

This site (Fark) has an odd fascination with North Korea. I actually applaud it. I have learned a lot from the MANY links in the past.

Maybe "Fark" can help this planet in an odd way?

/this was a real compliment to the posters in the past.

/yes I am a dork. But I AM older than most folks posting. Hint is the "54" on my screen name references my birth year.

I might have visited near some of those pics.

I went there a few years ago. Kind of thought it would be a snooze but I had a day to kill. Turned out to be an amazing experience.

The Lisa Ling National Geographic special is also pretty fantastic! It's on Netflix and Amazon Prime, and I vaguely remember seeing it on the National Geographic site, too.

/Just rewatched it this week. The ending ... man, talk about surreal.

I've been to JSA Panmunjom and the blue conference rooms in the pictures. I thought about doing the whole Homer Simpson, "now I'm North Korea, now I'm in South Korea, now I'm in North Korea" thing, but I didn't think the guards would be amused.

North Koreans may want increased contact with the West, but Kim Jong Il sure doesn't.
Other than his regular shipment of cognac, that is.

It is the mouthpiece through which the DPRK regime propagates its autistic world-view to its subjects

I've never heard them described that way. But I guess it's appropriate.

Flab, the best photos of the DPRK are Eric Lafforgue's (new window)
I agree that Kernbeisser's are great and I consider him second in the hierarchy of DPRK photographers. I have learned from both. Like me these guys go back regularly and see more of the society than the typical tourist.

farm7.staticflickr.com

I have been to the DMZ three times but from the North only. It is relaxed and they even sell souvenirs now. I understand the tour from the south is rigid with rules. Funny to see DPRK beer in the south. That particular brand is jammed at us every night for dinner. The beer drinkers say it is not bad. Acorn Soju, now that is nasty liquor. .

My DMZ photos from the north may be seen HERE (new window)

I can tell you from experience that it didn't amuse them at all.

How much of a pain is it to get in on one of those tours to DPRK as an american citizen? Seems like there's some people who have first hand knowledge here.

LIAR!!!!

But I was able to find it streaming here, for the price of watching a few ads. Thanks for the tip, very much enjoyed it! :)
