As long as there are plenty of co-ed shower scenes and gratuitous violence I'm all for it...

Please put the powered armor suits back in, good sirs.

I'd gladly settle for a couple more seasons of the Australian animated version, with a nice wrap-up ending.

As long as it's made by someone who disagreed politically with Heinlein as much as Verhoeven does. If they try to play the "military and corporal discipline is essential for human survival" tack straight, it'll be unwatchable.

/Hey, look, I read Cracked.

No....just no.

I'm grateful for the original....Dina Meyer....yummy

This.

Go with the book.

Could be worth it, if it is faithful to the book. However, as the years have gone by, I have become fond of the 1st movie. It took some work.

Want to know how I did the same thing? I refused to admit that it was in any way, shape, or form related to the book. They share a title, and some characters have the same names but other than that they are completely different works.

I like the book and I liked the original movie. I can only hope they follow the book faithfully for this reboot.

Even if they do play it by the book, I hope they bring back NPH for a walk on.

This may be why I've never really hated the movie - I've never read Starship Troopers. It was a terrible movie, but it wasn't worthy of hate. Heinlein's writing is too absurd for me to enjoy.

Unless the movie has Neil Patrick Harris in it, don't bother. He *made* that movie.

Verhoeven didn't finish the book either. IIRC from the commentary, he set out to create a fascism satire in response to his childhood spent in war-torn Netherlands and I think he succeeded.

when did the word "reboot" become a synonym for "remake" and can we go back in time to make sure that doesn't happen?

Same, here. I loved the book; loved the movie. I just pretended they were unrelated.

We used to describe it in College as 'Based on the back of a book by Robert Heinlein'

will it be entitled "Fireclown, we are very sorry about the lack of powered suits in the last movie. Here they are."?

Are you suggesting that we reboot the entertainment lexicon?

Fixed that for you. And Verhoeven failed to read the book anyway.

Plus, just because Heinlein wrote about it in a book doesn't mean he "agreed" with what he wrote. The government in Starship Troopers, for example, is vastly different from the one in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. He was farking around with different ideas.

/no, it isn't 'fascist' either.

I would like to know less. If Paul Verhoeven could fark up the first one, who is going to do this one right?

I'm willing to give up the power armor but ONLY for the same amount and quality of nudity the first movie had. If I get both, so much the better, but I better get one or the other.

skullkrusher: when did the word "reboot" become a synonym for "remake" and can we go back in time to make sure that doesn't happen?

"Remake" means remaking one movie. "Reboot" means expect a lot of sequels.

I hope they put a little more of the social commentary from the book in rather than just explosions and battle scenes.

You mean more social commentary mirroring what is contained in the book or do like the first movie did and include lots of social commentary that contradicts what is contained in the book?

They did bring the powered armor suits into the third installment, Marauder.

/Like others here, I loved the movie and the book. They must be approached as two distinct entities; if you watch the movie expecting to book's plot and tone, you will be sorely disappointed. If you go in with a blank slate, it is quite campy and enjoyable.

Screw Starship Troopers and make Ender's Game.

And it better have kids killing each other without the MPAA getting their panties in a bunch.

I'd love to see it, I just don't see how you could film it true to the book. The whole story (for me) is about what's going on in Felix's (and Crow's) minds. It'd likely end up as just a movie about killing ants and knocking hot blond administrators around...

The social commentary in the movie fails to have anything to do with what is contained in the book except the typical "I didn't read the book but somebody told me it has to do with having to fight in the army to be a citizen so I'll go with that to look smart" you get from most people.

Great book. The angles with the multiple-deployments and PTSD might be pretty relevant . . .

Agreed.

As I never read the books, and understand that they simply took the principles from it and made it separate, I actually consider the first movie as one of my favourites.

Dina Meyer was very good in it *wink wink* and I would have preferred they killed off Denise Richard's character.

The CGI (the bugs) were excellent... the first movie that I considered on par as Jurassic Park to make something huge look real.

The sequels were quite forgettable, nothing like the first one... the third one would have earned point if they had T'Paul show her birthday suit.

You mean her complete lack of boobs? (NSFW) Yeah she was pretty, but no titties. What made the movie was the complete cheesiness of it.

Troopers was like Robocop 1, it was social commentary and satire, but with gore and cool action. It was good, bordering on great as far as those movies go.

Then they rolled it into generic space marine action flick #2. Who cares about that crap?

that was awesome.

There are two reasons why Starship Troopers was a great movie - Dina Meyers.
