People tend to not give Commodore their due credit.

While IBM pc's were for the businessmen, Apple II's were for the middle class, Commodore was for the rest of us.

For the first time regular people could afford a home computer.

Two hours? I don't think so. (I did spy some awesome stone washedness in there, though.)

No wonder they died. Ancient technology all over the place.

I still have an ancient Amiga somewhere in my house. Best computer I ever bought.

:( that video made a tear come to my eye ...I am a huge Amiga fan.

I have an irrational love affair with my 3000. I still blow kisses to it when I walk by. My friends just don't understand.

Surfing Gopher, mudding, Psygnosis games, Lightwave, Scala, Octamed... had so much fun on that thing. It just blew all other home computers out of the water.

My first computer was a Vic-20. Stayed brand loyal all the way up to the Amiga 3000. I still play around with UAE (new window) when I'm feeling nostalgic.

I attempt to collect commodore computers ...and I'm on the market for a Vic-20 ...very much wish I had one. That or a Pet.

Currently still mess around with my:
C64 (3 of them) plus 2 working drives
128 (2 of them, one in box) plus 2 drives (one in box)
Amiga 500,1000 (2, one in box), 2000, 3000

Tons of software, monitors (some in box) and various accessories.

We used to carry around a list with a the games we had. So that we could "trade." It was huge.

Game trading was HUGE back then. Groups used to get together weekly ...alas, I was too young to be in that crowd (early teens). Still hang out with a few of those guys though. We talk about the good ole days of bulletin boards and zip ram!

Up until then it was all 16 and 48k for the most part.

Another Vic-20 as a first computer user here. Upgraded to the C-64 when it came out. My happiest Christmas memory was back when our family was pretty tight on cash, but my dad managed to snag me up a 1541 disk drive for Christmas. It was greatness!

I never could afford the Amiga, but we moved to IBM clones shortly after that time.

C-64 remains my most time spent with emulating retro games. Temple of Apshai, Telengard, Alternate Reality: The City just to name a few.

Awesome! ..I played the hell outta that hard ass game! Also, Legacy of the Ancients, Jumpman, Impossible Mission, Bruce Lee, Mail Order Monsters and countless others. Had to go to a friends to do it. I still have that old machine.

When I was 15, I had a choice between a car or an Amiga 3000. The answer was obvious and I didn't get a drivers license till I was 19. Didn't need one :P

Thanks to that gift, I am now an IT professional

It took me a while, but I finally managed to reacquire the computer model that brought me from the casette tape era to the wonderful world of the floppy disk.

And it is amazing what $75 on Craigslist will occasionally buy you.

Good for you. I've still got my Sinclair Spectrum, ICL PC, OPD and my old self-made PC. Some pics in profile, from the seventies.

Incidentally, did you know that the Commodore Pet wasn't called that in France, because 'pet' means 'fart'?

I was a proud Amiga owner and even worked at an Amiga store.

The computer was brilliant, but Commodore didn't seem to have a clue as to how to market it.

me thinks piracy helped kill off the amiga. 90% of my software at the time was downloaded from illegal BBS sites. it's my understanding commodore made part of it's money from licensing.

I for one am impressed how clean that place is for being the "last" day.

$300 for the amiga 500 and $600 for a courier hst modem that was 19.2k when everything else was 14.4k to pirate from the best bbs's. $125 for the 512k ram expansion and $80 for the 2nd disk drive. i think i bought both my c64c and the amiga at toys r us.

That made me sad. Used to be a huge Amiga fanboy. Interesting side note: The old Commodore HQ in Westchester is now QVC's HQ. I understand their studios used to be C='s assembly floor.

Speedball 2 was my poison. I logged many many hours into that game playing against college buddies. And I still find myself randomly spouting Warlords quotes: "Orcs of Kor, for you the war is over." Now that I think about it, it's really odd how often I find a chance to say that line.

It's really not that hard, except for the 128D. That was tough and a bit pricy. It had a small problem that needed tweaking to fix up. The 1902A monitor was just lucky as I found a local person selling an amazingly well kept setup. All you need to do is hit Craigslist often and look. Or eBay. Stuff is cheap.

I found a VIC-20 at a garage sale back in the '90s and I still have it. It came with a game called Cosmic Cruncher, a Commodore 1530 C2N-B Datasette, and a whopping 3-kilobyte memory expansion cartridge. I collect vintage Macintosh computers now and am a die-hard Apple guy, but I fully recognize the significance Commodores had on the market and the potential they presented.
