FTF comments: Manning should not try and make a stupid comeback this year just to prove something. He needs to help his TEAM by taking the high draft pick.

Because they got that kinda money.

It's gonna be housecleaning unseen. None of the big names not dubbed Manning will be safe.

I don't understand what this has to do with Tim Tebow.

One step closer to my prediction of Peyton coming back in time to screw NBC for downgrading the Pats-Colts game.

\long shot, but still would be the mother of all network trolls....

The Colts haven't put Manning on IR for one simple reason: They'd like to see what he looks like come the end of the season. Whether that's in practice or in a game, he can't do it if he's on IR. They don't really gain anything by putting him on IR except an additional roster spot, which is pretty useless given that we're 0-11 right now. The Colts have a fair amount of injuries outside of Manning, but the active roster is not going to live or die with one fewer player.

Oh, I know. He's already said it's on him to come back to demonstrate his worth. But you know they're going to be signing a QB, no matter which one it is. To pay for that I expect to see some aging vets jettisoned. The Polians are delusional if they think they can pay for that otherwise.

Brackett will be cut. I expect Saturday to either retire or be offered a cheap short term contract. His value lies more in leadership than actual blocking at this point. Wayne's bad year and age are going to diminish his value, so I can see him staying if he doesn't want too much money. Mathis is going to be resigned because we need two elite pass rushers and his age isn't as much of a concern (DEs play a lot better when older than WRs do). There are definitely going to be some vet cuts.

Perhaps you forgot about that whole lockout thing and fixing the issue of rookies getting $50M guaranteed?

My google-fu is weak in finding exact numbers of what a #1 pick will get, but this (new window) makes it look like a LOT less than it was previously.

Cam Newton got 4 years, $22 million deal. I thought I saw something for Luck that would expect his to be marginally more, yet still in line with what Newton got. There is a rookie wage pool now, so that pot will have to be split with all other rookies. The Colts also have some compensation picks for free agents heading there way too.

The smart move is to trade down for one of the other awesome QBs in the draft anyway and use what they get to build the team. And the lower round QB will want less money.

1st round QBs are a total crapshoot. Even the #1 picks bust out at a high rate. I'm just glad I'm not the GM of the Colts right now. The Polians have a lot of tough decisions to make.
