software products could not only read emails and text messages sent from spied-on phones, but could actually fake new ones or alter the text of messages sent.

This explains all the weird Fark postings by Speaker2Animals. Also, Julian Assange is now a trademarked name? WTF?

I'm not surprised. Honestly. If data is stored anywhere, there's no reason to clear it out periodically. At least from the viewpoint of companies. Consumers would have to push for a standard length of retention, and then it would have to be enforced. Or you can go cold turkey and quit the Internet and smartphones. Good luck.

So...

What is "turned off"? You hold the power button down until the device's screen shuts off? Or do you remove the battery?

Screen turned off and buttons unresponsive ~= device turned off.

Canada's strict privacy laws have allowed us to take companies to task on privacy issues like this. While it's legal in the UK and possibly the US to do this, our "Big Government" offers us a modicum or recourse... that is until our conservative government neuters it in the name of job creation.

You're absolutely right; the criminal misuse of communications tech by private industry and government agencies is the direct result of medicare, medicaid, and the Keynesian economic policies of FDR. How could we have been so blind? If only we hadn't allowed government to stop Robber-Barons and amoral employers from abusing their workers, hiring mercenaries to kill protesters, and poisoning their consumers to increase profits, we would have never come to these dire straits we currently find ourselves in. It has nothing to do with Bush ordering the NSA to surveil the US population. It has nothing to do with Bush threatening legal harassment and legislative score-settling against any corporation that didn't help the NSA to do so. It has nothing to do with Conservative pols and judges spending the 90s building the judicial and legal principle that an individual's private information loses privacy protection once that individual enters into a private contract with a private third party. It has nothing to do with Obama's championing of the idea that the Executive can do anything it wants to anyone it wants and that no one has any standing to even know it's being done. Nope, it was Teddy Roosevelt busting those trusts. It was aaall Lincoln preserving the Union. It was Hamilton founding the first US National Bank. Yup, it's all that what done us in.

I'm seeing it. But it doesn't explain what your list is.

Also, the ability to speak necessarily indicates a certain level of cognition and capacity for abstract thinking simply unavailable to most of the animal world. The ability to speak does in fact indicate a higher level of intelligence than 99.999 (or more)% of known organisms. Even the mongoloid is smarter than your typical cat or dog.

Intelligence is relative. Since we can't converse vocally with the rest of organisms nor explain complex concepts to even chimps, I think your point is irrelevant. Qui Gon was talking to another "intelligent being" that had nothing intelligent to say to other "intelligent beings."

That being said, I'll let you keep guessing away at what the list means and we'll use your guesses in our assessment as to whether you are an intelligent person.

from wikipedia:
Mongoloid (also Mongolic[1]) is a term sometimes used by forensic anthropologists and physical anthropologists to refer to populations that share certain phenotypic traits such as epicanthic fold and shovel-shaped incisors and other physical traits common in East Asia, the Americas and the Arctic. The word is formed by the base word "Mongol" and the suffix "-oid" which means "resembling". It was introduced by early Racial science used to refer to the "yellow race", one of the proposed three major races of human kind.
