Mugato: The gov't not getting enough of their cut?

They aren't getting any cut, which is retarded. We should regulate online poker and tax it reasonably. There is a metric asston of money to be made by doing that, and the government can protect the players in the process from unscrupulous crap like what Full Tilt pulled.

Instead, all the online pros have moved out of the country, taking hundreds of millions of dollars with them.

This business is flurishing without an extra-constitutional agency supervising.

We cannot allow this. People may figure out other businesses could do just as well without us!

If people are going to gamble, they're going to do it regardless of whether or not the government allows online poker.

This is a really idiotic law that establishes regulations that cost money are are completely unnecessary.

Not only that, how much tax revenue are you really going to generate? Most people probably lose money playing poker, with maybe a small percentage winning anything significant over the course of a year.

See? This is what happens when government regulation becomes onerous and heavy handed, all the jobs get outsourced to other countries. Way to go you farking brainiacs, you just added to the unemployment lines.

/Government, "Gambling is evil and bad and needs to be stamped out at all costs!"
//Government, "Please remember to buy your Lotto tickets today!"

This law was used strictly to clear the US marketplace of the offshore sites.

When they allow online poker again it will be only for sites based in the US (which will pay taxes on their income) that comply with IRS reporting of players financial activity (so it can be taxed).

You might as well call a spade a spade and charge them for the taxes. Are they not using electricity our taxes paid to install? What they get to use all of that money just for themselves to buy gold and diamonds while we foot the bill for the electricity? Really folks I should club you all don't you have any heart.

/I don't want to club you all, really only way I could think to fit it in there.

This kind of prosecution makes me flush with anger. I mean, to punish this pair of bankers for processing payments, it's just ludicrous. Not that the government, federal prosecutors and bankers aren't three of a kind when it comes to unethical activities, why can't we just play it straight and tax the income generated by American players on the various websites? Let's not forget that this law was passed as part of the port security bill in 2006. Laws and enforcement like this, prove we have a house full of idiots and special interests running the country!

Some players do make money, and it would be taxed the same way casino winnings are. Don't forget about corporate income tax for the rake the site takes as well. The game should be legal and well regulated like real casinos are. We're talking about hundreds of millions of dollars here, and that number would only increase if the game was legal and provably fair.
