Good.

Maybe this will send a message to Mozilla that their browser sucks. Don't get me wrong, Firefox was the best browser compared to what was out there in its heyday (2005-2008), but other vendors caught up and surpassed them.

Also, what the fark is up with the rapid release bullshiat they are pulling?

No worries, Firefox will release version 3.6.8.9.1.3.4.23.212.12222.122.1a within the next 10 minutes and then everything will be alright with the world.

Meanwhile my company will only let us use IE7. Awesome.

I'm still on Firefox for my home computer but sort of curious about Chrome.

Chrome is so mainstream. I use Lynx. You probably haven't heard of it. Now where's my latte?

I switched to Chrome when FF turned into bloatware garbage. Haven't been back since.

Same here. Our remote-access accounting software will only run properly on IE and it SUCKS!

Did anyone ever get a good AdBlock running for Chrome or is Google still blocking that?

I liked Firefox quite a bit but it started making my computer run reaaaaally slow so I switched to Chrome.

They're copying Google, basically.

I adore Chrome and look down on Firefox holdouts in the same way I do iPhone users.

GAT_00: Did anyone ever get a good AdBlock running for Chrome or is Google still blocking that?

ABP + Better pop-up blocker is fine, just disable bpub for fb/twitter.

Internet Explorer 6 all the way. Bonzi Buddy laughs and he tells jokes. VirusLoader Toolbar tells me when I have a virus.

Our company default is IE6 since some internal apps only work on that shiatpile. I just can't use that and have Chrome at home and work.

I loved Firefox. LOVED IT. Wouldn't dream of switching to Chrome.

Then my friend persuaded me to try Chrome just for three days. Never looked back.

Try it for three days, then thank me on the fourth.

I've tried Chrome, but wasn't sold on it. Bunch of little things really. And I really don't like how some absolutely necessary functions are only available through add ons (which don't even work on some pages cause Chrome won't let add ons interact with stuff like the blank new tab page). But it's definitely my second browser, and I do like it more than Firefox. I'm using Opera, by the way.

2011-12-02 03:34:47 AM
I have no real problems with Firefox, but my laptop won't boot Windows anymore so I had to switch to Ubuntu. Tried Firefox for a few days, switched back to Chrome today. Sorry Firefox, you were cool once.

"Google's three-year-old web browser has overtaken Mozilla Firefox to become the second-most popular desktop Web browser in the world, according to the latest stats from Web tracking firm StatCounter."

Just sayin'.

I just switched to Chrome ... like today. I really did love Firefox and used it for a good long time, but it's a really bloated piece of crap now. That said, I'm still not 100% sold on Chrome, but I'll probably get used to it. Like someone else said, it's a lot of little things...

Have you ever wondered what google does with all the data they track from you when you use Chrome?

Didn't they get involved with the CIA recently-giving them information to encourage revolution in the Middle East based on tracking data?

Google - you have to invite them into your home like a vampire, unless you happen to have your wifi on when their car drives by you so they can map you and publish your information for the world to see.

Yeah, I don't know what the deal is with workplaces. They seem to think IE is the only legitimate browser and Firefox and Chrome are like rogue crazy things that only kids use.

"Oh, you can't use those browsers, this is a workplace".

Lynx is great for surfing when you don't need certain images popping up at inopportune moments.

If you look at the graph, you'll see that the Fark headline is wrong. The most used browser is still IE in some form or other. IE 9 is very frustrating, it blocks a ton of necessary stuff. Like, I can't use it to administrate my router. The router uses javascript, and IE's handling of javascript is farked up. I was an early convert to Chrome, but Chrome now has frustrating bits, too.

I have five browsers installed, and I need them all: IE9, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera. And on my Linux machine, Links, Iceweasel, Chromium, Chrome, Epiphany, and also the KDE browser, which name won't come to me right now. I need them all.

Until Chrome will let me put the tab bar where I want (i.e. where it belongs) they can SABOD.

coco ebert: I liked Firefox quite a bit but it started making my computer run reaaaaally slow so I switched to Chrome.

For several months, my dual-core Win7 laptop was often slowed to a crawl by FF, to the point where I wondered if something was seriously wrong. Sometimes Zimbra e-mail (used by my work) would lock the thing up entirely with a monster script error. A couple of weeks ago, FF updated and magically, the problem vanished. But I use Chrome now on my POS Dell at work, because FF still gobbles memory like Sasha Grey at a black penis convention.

The various web browsers are a lot like brands of socks, IMHO...

Yes, yes, I have a preference for one over another; but in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter. Chrome currently my default browser but whenever I do any sort of web development I still need to open up all the major players and make sure it renders the page correctly.

The SECOND most used Browser on the planet. IE still reigns supreme, which is evidence of the overwhelming derp on this planet.

Used FF until recently, cause i don't like my browser crashing every 15 minutes (especially when i was Downloading practically anything) so switched to chrome. miss some of the features of FF, but no crashy since, so i'm happy.

Google Chrome has just overtaken Mozilla Firefox as the world's second most used web browser

Apparently well labeled graphs with pretty colors are really hard to read for subby.

That's that browser that's embedded in almost all freeware.

Incidentally, can anyone recommend good equivalents for AdBlock Plus and NoScript on Chrome? If I can find something to replace those two, I'd happily move from Firefox to Chrome.

2011-12-02 07:46:36 AM
I don't need Chrome spying on me to Google. Chrome is just like Carrier IQ, capturing everything your type. Yes, there are workarounds in Chrome to avoid some of this but by default it's on and so the vast majority of people are unaware.

Heh. I used Lynx before most people even *HEARD* of the Web.

Oddly enough, I went back to Firefox from Chrome. Chrome started screeching to a halt on certain websites with Adblock installed (I'm looking at you, Gawker family). When that started up Firefox 7 was just released and was considerably faster and less bloated than it had been before.

Use what you like best. It's just in my case Chrome stopped working properly.

what the hell are you looking at Gawker crap for in the first place?

And, Adblock and Ghostery seem somewhat hobbled on Chrome.....

I played around w/ chrome quite a bit when it was first released but eventually returned to ff. Sounds like chrome has matureds and deserves another look. Is there something similar to fastest fox on chrome? I love the imbedded highlight & search function.

did anyone quote this yet?

(and to those derping about the subby leaving out IE, Im pretty sure they didnt acknowledge it on purpose. you know. like any other sane person)

On the computer, I use Firefox. On my phone, I use Opera. Chrome is so featureless and I don't feel like hunting for add-ons to make work like I want it to. I've tried it a couple of times and I always quit using it soon after.

Not a big Firefox 8 fan, mostly because they moved stuff around and I fear change... but it still better than Chrome.

Comments about Gawker aside, my experience isn't totally dissimilar. Sometimes I'll be comparing stats for a bunch of baseball players at once and want to have each player's page open in a separate tab and go back and forth. Chrome creating an entirely separate instance of itself for each tab means it becomes an even bigger resource hog than Firefox in a situation like that. There's a definite point of diminishing returns. As somebody who loves flying around between four or five tabs for regular browsing (and can easily get up to 10), I went back to Firefox.

2011-12-02 08:04:18 AM
I'll stick with Firefox. I haven't experience major slowdowns and I already give enough personal info to Google - I don't need them to collect information on all of my browsing habits as well. Switching to Chrome, to me, is akin to sharing a ton of personal information on facebook and expecting privacy.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: "Google's three-year-old web browser has overtaken Mozilla Firefox to become the second-most popular desktop Web browser in the world

Interesting, so what's the world's most popular browser then? As yon media were happy to announce Firefox had overtaken IE a while back and have never reported IE resuming its lead. I assume Opera quietly took the lead at some point.

Or is this all just the media pulling yet more figures out of it's ass so it can generate some page impression revenue?

Internet Explorer in all its versions is the most popular browser. I believe Firefox overtook Internet Explorer 6 a while back.

wget is all you really need.

GAT_00: Did anyone ever get a good AdBlock running for Chrome or is Google still blocking that?

I wonder if the stats are a bit skewed. I run FF with ABP and statscount.com is blocked. Not sure if that's by default or if I added the filter, but statscoonter won't be seeing what I'm doing.

2011-12-02 08:16:37 AM
I don't use anything Google because I really don't want it all recorded and brought back up at a later date.
As far as Chrome being popular, there are a ton of applications that either include a Chrome install or use
some facet of chrome, which could be counted as having 'chrome' but not necessarily reflecting an actual
use of the browser that replaces IE or Firefox.
