Some consumers complained that it looked confusingly similar to Diet Coke's silver cans. Others felt that regular Coke tasted different in the white cans. Still others argued that messing with red bordered on sacrilege.

Because of all the things in this world, this is the one I would rage over and want changed immediately.

FTFY.

/Coca-Cola is only worth a damn from glass bottles, preferably Hecho in Mexico, or with yellow caps signifying it's Kosherableness.

Short answer: color affects how your brain perceives flavor.

They need to do a commercial similar to the one for the Nissan Leaf where the polar bear walks to the guys house and hugs him. Some douche can be sitting on his couch, sipping on a red can of Coke when a polar bear crashes in and mauls them.

I did a double take when I first saw one of these cans. Then I got over it.

I hate diet drinks with a passion, and was repulsed by the white can for that reason.

I'm sure diet stuff tastes fine to people with a whole different set of genetically determined tastebuds. To me, this is like dish soap spiked with turpentine. So there's an incompatibility problem.

I looked it over for like 15 sec going... "this... this is the diet version, isn't it. Is it? Or isn't it?"

'Cause if it's diet, I don't feel right taking it out of the fridge only to pour it out, but that's what's gonna happen if it's a diet.

Tastes fine, though.

Reminds me of an experiment where they added dye to white wine.

Apparently, if you make white wine look like red wine, expert drinkers can't tell the difference. And before your post the XKCD "CITATIONATION REQUIRED" picture, here's a Link (new window)

I, on the other hand, can tell the difference between coke and diet coke and coke zero, because they all taste a little different. Even when put in a white El Pollo Loco cup.

And I see Pepsi as a signal that a restaurant has gone the cheapest possible route. Beware.

Oh wow, just this afternoon I tried to grab a can of coke at the cafeteria, but they all looked like diet. It was diet, caffeine free, 'zero' and diet. I figured sometimes work does weird things like that, and grabbed a pepsi instead.

Total backfire. It wont be a problem now that fark told me they switched to white cans, but it wasnt much of a problem before either.

2011-12-02 01:41:24 AM
I'm a big coke fan and I dislike pepsi. But pepsi throwback > HFCS coke.

Kosher Coke is so f-ing good.

2011-12-02 01:41:24 AM
If they had dropped Diet Coke for Coke Zero like they should have done years ago, we wouldn't have this problem, would we?

As a pizza delivery driver, I hate the new color. So many people freaking out at me accusing me of giving them diet, and having to explain it. Some people dont notice until I'm gone and call the store to freakout and causes issues.

Red cans + white polar bears should do the trick?

You know Pepsi Max has a similar looking bottle as regular Pepsi. But I can stop myself from getting Pepsi Max by READING THE LABEL!!!

The people that are confused by a similar label are the ones that buy Durmacell batteries and eat at McDowells.

One of the worst packaging decisions of all time was Wasabi Funyuns. Package looked exactly like the normal funyuns, but said 'wasabi' in tiny print under 'Funyuns'. Bag was a bit more green, too, but hard to tell that shiat under the harsh, unforgiving rasp of gas-station fluorescent lights at two in the morning.

Yeah.... Isn't it great being white?

/seriously, it is

Some consumers complained that it looked confusingly similar to Diet Coke's silver cans.

I can see that.

Others felt that regular Coke tasted different in the white cans.

These are the same sorts of people who swear bottled and canned beverages taste differently.

Still others argued that messing with red bordered on sacrilege.

These people need therapy.

I don't mind them changing it up for a bit. I don't buy Diet Coke, so I don't have to worry about grabbing the wrong can.

To all those who complained: RTFC and no, it doesn't taste any different!

/Mexican Coke in Glass Bottles FTW. Don't be fooled by the 8oz holiday pack ones, they're still HFCS!
//Pepsi and Dew Throwback varieties are fantastic as well, tastes like it should!

Obviously it was a mistake to use similar coloring for their regular Coke that they use for their Diet Coke. The market reaction was predictable, even down to the "it tastes different" morons.

But it is absolutely moronic for Coke to have done this. This is why they have marketing departments. Someone's head has probably already rolled over this gaffe.

Hey now. I can tell the difference between canned, plastic, glass, and fountain versions of Pepsi and Coke in isolation. I can get tricked if you set me up with fountain Coke and plastic Pepsi.
