"becomes more google-like" == translation, harvests everything it can about your personal life, stores it permanently, sells it to whomever for whatever. writes some neat apps, proclaims itself not evil.

I've got 3 videos from the same person (uploaded on the same exact farking day) each 5 videos apart in the list.

Are they trying to kill the comments in some way or is there a setting to "turn on" nested comments?

I get what they're going for here, they have the right idea but farking christ was a clusterfark it is. It looks like someone stole code from some random website and copy pasted it as a sidebar for Youtube.. Gross.. It doesn't even fit in..

Other than that, I can still search, and watch videos.. Anyone who uses Youtube for any sort of social interaction is either 13, a pedophile, or a furry.

What is YouTube?
*Googles it, looks*
Oh, that site with all the clips from America's Funniest Home Videos that were too stupid even for Bob Saget to air on ABC....yeah, um, who cares???

/Seriously, YouTube is the world's biggest fart video repository. Think about that.

I still can't search through a video list, only Youtube as a whole. Makes for a serious scaling problem when you favorite hundreds or more videos. All they did was make Youtube uglier.

I was just biatching the other day about how a bright white background against the video hurts my eyes and now it's fixed! The gods smile upon me today.

They want people to comment, just not discuss things.

I'd like to know what kind of discussions upset them, or if it's just a matter of wanting everyone to be passive consumers.

While I agree the mainpage is kind of a clusterfark, each sub you have has their own little "channel" button on the sidebar. Yea, it's a bit of extra work, but if you haven't seen them publish something recently you can always click on their channel.

The new YouTube has alerted me five times that RoosterTeethShows uploaded a single video, has alerted me that the Angry Birds Movie Trailer (also Rooster Teeth) has been commented on, and clustered them all in a way that is a pain in the butt to organize.

I've seen better web pages on GeoCities.

2011-12-02 12:13:06 AM
Oh yeah, having everything in 3 useless columns, a design that screws you if you don't check in on your subscriptions every few days and will have you scroll endlessly as well as that ugly background thats not as easy on the eyes and the stupid new comment system -- and they also plan on messing up the "My Channel" pages too in due time....

Nevermind. Youtube has decided that any comment made by anyone I'm subscribed to is somehow more important than videos they upload. And some of the people I follow comment a lot (just to say hi/thanks). So now all I see are comments. I know there is an "uploads only" button, but holy crap, why did the Youtube team suddenly think the site was better off as a social network instead of farking video site?

2011-12-02 12:27:15 AM
It's retarded. I prefer the old look because it was organized, easy on the eyes, and I could keep all the information I didn't want, out.

Now I'm stuck with a huge list of Recommended videos that take up space, a list of Subscribed Channel videos in a jumbled mess that means absolutely nothing and makes it impossible for me to see the videos I actually want to.

And I don't want to attach my youtube account with my Facebook account. I've always kept them separate for a reason, and now I have all this shiat on the left side of the page that wants me to connect my stuff.

I refuse to use Youtube until it's fixed. If they don't, then I won't worry about it and I'll survive without my 1 video per week of my subscribed channels.

2011-12-02 12:35:55 AM
Well that didn't last long.

2011-12-02 12:59:30 AM
I just want them to fix the icon-only buttons in the new Gmail.

Youtube is simply a video repository. I don't use the site as a standalone, I just happen to wind up there when link to videos take me. Don't care about the redesign.

2011-12-02 01:10:00 AM
Jeez, can they cut down on the massive amount of white space? I may have to go over and see if that's changed

2011-12-02 01:23:22 AM

If Google wanted to make a successful 'thing' all they have to do is take a note from Amazon. Eat you own dog food. Google Doc's would get seriously good very quickly if the whole of Google HAD to use it and it HAD to work with everything else. Same with Plus or Buzz or whatever else has limped out the door and been, internally, abandoned.

Can I at least watch a whole video without pausing to wait for the buffer, baby it along, or scream at it now?

It ain't my connection. Vimeo works fine.

I still am pissed at the fact that you can't hide the comments with having to resort to a greasemonkey script. You used to be able to hide them, and unhide them with a nifty arrow. But they removed it just to piss people off*.

I don't like the new subscription system, I liked the old dashboard model because honestly a lot of my subs post videos too often so I scanned through them to see what's good. Everything else I've liked so far.
/Can't believe it's so hard for you guys not to read comments, they're always beneath the fold too.

So all interdepartmental memo's, digital notice boards, project planning and status updates of such are being put on G+? All communications is done via Gmail's web interface and all documents/spreadsheets are done via Doc's web interface?

If the answer isn't a resounding "YES" from the Googleplex it's shiat that limped out the door and is abandoned. If the answer is "YES" then you have to wonder why G+ sucks balls when it comes to integration with the other stuff.

I'm still betting that if I walked in to Google's HQ I'd find them using Outlook, Exchange & Office.

Despite the overwhelming majority of devices being in a widescreen format, or the fact that the mass majority of their videos are in a widescreen format, the site is formatted to be read in a vertical fashion with such a bizarre aspect ratio.

On top of that, they have so much whitespace that quite obviously is there only for the sake of future full-screen advertisement backgrounds.

Forced integration of G+ and Facebook is dumb, and the subscription list on the left is a good idea, executed horribly.
The whole left bar is just clunky and redundant. The whole thing.

Videos from multiple subscribers are displayed in a nonsensible and non-customizable fashion. It doesn't make sense at all; previously, all videos from a given subscriber would at least attempt to be shown under the same headings.

Then there's the large recommended bar, which you also can't get rid of. It reeks of trying to force you to see content you don't care about so they can make money.

Next, you can't actually remove a video from the main subscriber column.
I...that's just totally broken functionality. They've outright removed a critical feature. Since they removed the "watch the video and it is removed from the list" functionality/preference around 2 updates ago, there is no way to get rid of a video you've watched. How was that not caught in testing?

Then there's the fact that you still can't search through your uploads/favorites/subscription videos. A simple text search, which they had implemented fine quite long ago (and removed, for some bipolar, developer-having-a-fit driven reason) is still not present again.

Then, more removed functionality - the ability to switch videos in a Channel without reloading the site - i.e. by scrolling through the subscriber video bar on the right. It would load in the same player before - a great feature - and they just cut the whole thing out for no real reason.

And there's also the broken sorting. I really don't understand why their sort by Date still does not work on anything but the main search. It's been broken since 2008 and it a broken single select query shouldn't take more than 10 seconds to fix on their end.

It seems like the entire site was designed by committee, as change for the sake of change. It seems like a desperate "me-too" following in the footsteps of the horrendous Gawker Media design update. A horrible attempt to make a tablet-oriented site that doesn't even work well in tablets.

The funniest part is that the m.youtube.com works better on all platforms than the main site. It scales to your window/browser's resolution and properly lists and delists content. Realistically, this design should have been filed under a new subdomain, like tablets.youtube.com, instead of foisted upon the main userbase.

Honestly, columnar display of the content isn't a bad idea. But the lack of video grouping, or rather any real sense of organization, and the massive amount of unused space are indicative of a terrible, terrible design strategy and ideology that the YouTube group have been espousing for a while.

Changing a UI is fine, even if it's a bit unintuitive. People will get used to that. But they've stripped or destroyed or obfuscated actual important features while not fixing the simple ones that have been long-requested for years now.

If anything, it seems like YouTube has adopted the "Mark Shuttleworth" style of design and farking over the user, and that's quite sad.

The UI looks the same to me, but they still haven't fixed the comments and made them threaded, which is just wacky to me.

moothemagiccow: The UI looks the same to me, but they still haven't fixed the comments and made them threaded, which is just wacky to me.

There is a user preference for that, I believe.

They used to be threaded and hierarchical by default a long time ago.

I suppose that I can get used to not being able to delete vids from my subscription area. But I don't like not being able to hide Recommended Videos. I'm thinking what if I click on something, it turns out to be not what I thought it was and my viewing it later causes something embarrassing to show in Recommended Videos
