FlashHarry: anyone who takes jezza seriously should be shot in front of their family.

Exactly, and I can't believe this is the first thing Cameron has said in a while that I've been in complete agreement with. Yeah it was silly, clearly he didn't mean it. People need to shut up. Why do people think they can score points by attacking what Clarkson says, when he just says silly things for a laugh? He even said on Top Gear once that he doesn't believe the stuff he says.

Half the thing that made the comments funny is the reaction to them. I wish people would stop expecting everyone to be serious all the time. Just because someone can speak on television doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to knowingly say nonsense for a laugh.

Hyperbole ( /haɪˈpɜrbəliː/ hy-pur-bə-lee;[1] Greek: ὑπερβολή, 'exaggeration') is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is not meant to be taken literally.

Unison, the public service trade union, welcomed Clarkson's apology and dropped plans for litigation and calls for his resignation.

"We would like to invite him to spend a day on a hospital ward, with one of our healthcare assistants. They do vital work caring for patients - cleaning up sick, bathing patients, and wiping bottoms," Unison added in a statement.

Wow, it took you guys this long to realize his routine?

He's smart, actually talented when he wants to be, and is playing everybody for the consumerist fools they are... so is dirty farking rich. Good for him and his act. Better that people actually think he's serious.

to be honest, he probably did go a little far this time. The trucker joke was funny. Saying 'they should be shot' was probably funny. going on to say taken out and executed in front of their families is pretty nasty/tasteless though.

Clarkson's only problem is sometimes he can't think of anything funny, so he just says something really shocking. I wish he'd get better at learning he doesn't always need to be "on".

The American show threw that part in the trash since they've only got 40 minutes instead of an hour.

Tasteless yes, but referring it to the police was lunacy. I'm as liberal as they come, but I have a soft spot for Clarkson, probably because he has a sense of humour about himself.

That's a classic non-apology.

"I didn't for a moment intend these remarks to be taken seriously - as I believe is clear if they're seen in context. If the BBC and I have caused any offence, I'm quite happy to apologize for it alongside them," Clarkson said on Thursday.

Try that next time you get in trouble. I dare you.

Not that I care about the apology, mind you. I enjoy Top Gear, and I don't care about British strikes one way or another.

Yeah, that show is terrible. Lame comedian, lame comedian, and race driver with no personality. The who thing seems forced. The thing I love about Top Gear is the chemistry between the May, Clarkson, and Hamster. That and all 3 are genuinely entertaining.

Speaking of Carolla, he did a pilot for a US Top Gear years back. But the studio never did anything with it. The new Knight Rider failing was partially to blame for scaring them off another car show.

Second season was better than the first. And the first couple seasons of the British show weren't that good compared to the more recent stuff. The American version is definitely not as good, but I still like it because it has cars I can better relate too since they're actually on the streets and showrooms near me.

Given the show is only available on satellite or cable in the US, and for a fee in the UK, being a consumerist fool is kind of a given isn't it?
