Meh, none of them can do The Triple Lindy either.

Yea not the way to handle the Bears situation. I think Martz has some crazy incredible offensive coordinator genius to him. But when it comes to dealing with players, he sucks. Cutlers gone. Its gonna be a tough road. Dont start upsetting your players by publicly calling them out.

I love that he said he was interested in the Arizona State job. I would love to see him take it just to laugh at how that would turn out.

I think it's hilarious that Martz has spent the better part of the last decade learning the hard way that not every team has Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce... and still doesn't really get it.

I can almost see throngs of quarterbacks raising broken middle fingers at him as I type.

Back in 2000, I thought Martz was the single biggest douchewaffle in the entire league (as far as coaches go).

Over a decade has passed since the "greatest show on turf," and he still holds the douche crown. There have been great challenges to his crown - notably Bellichik, Cable, etc. But Mike Martz is still the biggest, most elastic asshole in the NFL.

Oh lord no, that's not what I meant. Hanie is just such an outstanding player, he can do amazing things with his arm and his legs. The execution of the play could have been better, but we have such wonderful players, the best I've ever had the privilege of coaching. Hanie is probably the fasted QB I've ever coached, just an incredible athlete.

Mike Martz-

Back before Martz, I used to wonder why offenses always ran such simple, predictable plays. Then I remembered, oh, wait, they're football players, who never had much of a presence in high school math/science clubs.

Then along came the Greatest Show on Turf.

Hey, maybe with the emphasis on preventing head injuries, the game might smarten up someday? Until then, it's the rare intelligent QB/WR combo that wins the day.

He had offensive success in Detroit. Problem with Chicago is that they have no offensive talent, at all. The line sucks, their best wide receiver is a punt returner, they ditched their best actual receiver in Greg Olsen, etc. Not to mention they play in conditons that are not conducive to a Martz style passing offense(only domes and San Diego are conducive to that for the entirety of a season).

Mike Martz for Chargers HC after Turner is fired?

OC maybe, HC please no.

/honestly I think it's going to be Andy Reid's job
//not that I want another HC that makes questionable decisions, has clock management problems, challenges weird calls, etc
///I think Martz, Turner, and Reid all went to the same HC school

If Reid gets the HC job, my heart goes out to Chargers fans.

That play had me screaming at my tv set. Just run Barber up the middle (that's why they brought Barber to Chicago) and worst case scenario he gets stuffed at the goal line and you settle for a field goal, take the lead, and go into halftime with all of the momentum after suffering through a god awful 1st quarter. That is not the Mike Martz way......the Mike Martz way is to run a ridiculous gimmick play that gets picked off with no players in position to stop a long run back.

Put your players in position to win the games, don't put them in a position to fail.....certainly don't call them out in your press conference after they fail to execute your stupidity. I have a feeling that Cutler is going to make sure that Martz doesn't return next year.

The problem with Martz is that he has to be told to scale his offense down to the ability of the personnel. He also doesn't change what he does to take advantage of special skills.

He has in Jay Cutler a QB who is at his best in bootlegs and moving the pocket. Instead of building the gameplan around that, Martz insisted on doing the same damn 7-step drops that get his QBs hurt with GOOD offensive lines, much less the clown car of no-names the Bears are working with. As a result, Cutler started setting records for getting sacked. Only after the bye week (of both last year and this year) did Lovie tell Martz to simplify it.

In effect, Martz is more effective when he stops being Martz.

True, but Reid totally fits the Chargers mold. Win a lot of regular season games with a very dynamic offense, lose in the playoffs.

Not enough abandoning the run.

Oh man, what would happen if you had both Norv and Martz on a team?

While I agree with you on Martz 99.9% of the time, subby, the play in question here was a fake right, screen left. Hanie faked right and the defense wasn't buying, the guy was double covered. So I mean, yeah, that was an execution failure. Next time throw it out of bounds or some shiat.

Lots of good reasons to hate Martz, that play is not one of them.

Given the farking monsters that play defense, and the slow-developing plays with long drops, and minimal protection afforded by Martz's passing formations, Martz's players will be exceptions to any reduction in head injuries that might occur. He gets all his QBs annihilated. That and being resistant to adapting his scheme to the players he actually has are really not smart football.

Please PLEASE let him take a head coaching job somewhere else. If Barber runs up the middle for no gain and they kick a field goal instead of the Raiders, the Bears win by a point. Martz isn't anywhere near as smart as he thinks he is and people have had 10 years to study his offense. Game plan FOR THE PLAYERS YOU HAVE RIGHT NOW, not the players you wish you had (see: Fox, John).

If he's been running the same play for 20 years, that might be the explanation on why it doesn't work as well anymore.
