I'm ashamed to say that McChickens and McDoubles are sometimes my hangover food, but Big Macs are just gross. They're not worth it for any price.

I miss the 49 cent hamburger specials. :-(

I think so, but I'm sure they still make profit off of each one of these deals. They have the mcdouble for $1 and the big mac has the same 2 burger patties. I don't go to mcdonald's much at all, but if I do I just get dollar menu stuff because it all tastes the same, so I might as well eat for 3 or 4 dollars.

The skip button wasn't working for me, even when I closed the menu at the top. *shrug*

I just don't understand why this is a LivingSocial deal, let alone worthy of a greenlight.

over 171,000 sold and still going. Still, it'll get people into the stores and they'll certainly buy something to go along with their nasty Big Mac.

But I'm a dumb american.

Agreed. It's not gourmet by any possible stretch of the imagination, but it's cheap and pretty tasty.

Yeah, that great big, obvious X is a bit complicated. They need to make it a flashing graphic with big arrows pointing to it. That might help.

228,882 sold now. That's 70,000 in the last 9 hours on that one offer, and counting. I'm guessing they figure on people getting a soda, and buying a meal for someone else at the same time, because that's a hell of a bargain for a burger and fries, even with suspiciously sourced foodstuff. I can't make a 1/3 lb burger and fries at home for less than $2.50, and I don't bother to calculate fractional costs like heating and appliance depreciation.

Look up how they make hamburger (new window). Then investigate further (new window) and you if you'll even feed it to your pet there's something wrong with you.

By the way, I'm so poor I can't afford McDonald's but they do give me SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps). In my refrigerator I've got homemade chicken soup, a home-roasted turkey, a porch-grilled ham and raw lamb chops awaiting my attention. On the one hand I bought all this stuff marked down (e.g., the turkey was 59 cents a pound and the lamb was a "Manager's Special" expiration-dated the day before I bought it), on the other hand before this "dispensation" I've never eaten this well. Since I stopped having to live on PBJs and whatever they served in church basements I've gain 25 pounds (that alas I didn't need).

Smart poor people learn how to cook better food than they can buy in restaurants (if you can call McDonald's a restaurant); unemployed people have plenty of time to practice. My next project is learning to make saag gosht: $10 for the Indian place up the street to cook it for me, or $4 if I cook it myself. In a pinch I can do great stuff with beans, rice and whatever leftovers ain't stinky yet.

(What cash I have after rent & utilities I'd rather spend on booze, which I can't legally make myself. And with my luck the still would explode and my neighbors in this apartment building would really hate me.)

So why is there McDonald's? Hell, used microwaves are $20 at Goodwill and the Internet is full of nifty recipes.
