And this is why derp keeps beating Democrats in elections. When Republicans have the stomach to sink to Luntz-level horseshiat wharrgarble (which they do) and Democrats do not (and they usually don't), the Democrats will always lose. It's sad, but it's simple.

6. Don't ever say you're willing to 'compromise.'

"If you talk about 'compromise,' they'll say you're selling out. Your side doesn't want you to 'compromise.' What you use in that to replace it with is 'cooperation.' It means the same thing. But cooperation means you stick to your principles but still get the job done. Compromise says that you're selling out those principles."

Lunaville: I wish this could be posted on billboards, printed in various publications over and over again, and posted in public places much like a Surgeon Generals' warning so people could better understand how they are being manipulated.

I don't think the average American would care much if you showed them exactly how they were being manipulated.

I really don't have much problem with what Frank Luntz and others like him do for a living. I guess you could argue that they hate America, and in a sense you'd be right, but I think it's kind of a natural response to what we've become. We don't respond to facts and rational discourse, so f*ck us. We deserve people like Frank Luntz.

2011-12-01 12:50:16 PM
Let's see if we have this right:

1. Citizens protest the fact that they are getting screwed.
2. Rather than address the problem, Republicans attempt to rebrand the problem as a not problem.
3. Yup, the reason why the people are protesting has not changed even though the labels have.

Paging George Orwell to the republican conference committee.

"I remember saying once to Arthur Koestler, 'History stopped in 1936', at
which he nodded in immediate understanding. We were both thinking of
totalitarianism in general, but more particularly of the Spanish civil
war.
Early in life I have noticed that no event is ever correctly
reported in a newspaper, but in Spain, for the first time, I saw
newspaper reports which did not bear any relation to the facts, not even
the relationship which is implied in an ordinary lie. I saw great battles
reported where there had been no fighting, and complete silence where
hundreds of men had been killed. I saw troops who had fought bravely
denounced as cowards and traitors, and others who had never seen a shot
fired hailed as the heroes of imaginary victories; and I saw newspapers
in London retailing these lies and eager intellectuals building emotional
superstructures over events that had never happened. I saw, in fact,
history being written not in terms of what happened but of what ought to
have happened according to various 'party lines'. Yet in a way, horrible
as all this was, it was unimportant.
It concerned secondary issues--
namely, the struggle for power between the Comintern and the Spanish
left-wing parties, and the efforts of the Russian Government to prevent
revolution in Spain. But the broad picture of the war which the Spanish
Government presented to the world was not untruthful. The main issues
were what it said they were. But as for the Fascists and their backers,
how could they come even as near to the truth as that? How could they
possibly mention their real aims? Their version of the war was pure
fantasy, and in the circumstances it could not have been otherwise. "

Wow, Frank Luntz is on overdrive. OWS must be doing something right (and frightening).

He's half right. Wall Street isn't going to change how it operates just because protesters are surrounding their offices. The only way OWS can actually accomplish anything is to grab Congress's attention and get them to put more resources into investigating the firms that brought about the collapse, break up the biggest financial institutions, and regulate them to prevent a repeat of 2007-2008.

However Luntz is probably talking about ending CRA or the FHA, which won't do anything to help the economy or prevent another disaster.

2011-12-01 12:52:16 PM
Luntz is language cancer. It just reproduces until the original meaning is dead, replaced with what propagates best.

What he does is evil.

2011-12-01 12:52:50 PM
The GOP apparently thinks OWS is as susceptible to their messaging as teabaggers are.

Also, if OWS is so ineffective, how is it that their presence has made it so the GOP is being told to avoid the word "capitalism"?

2011-12-01 12:53:39 PM
Honestly, if we saw crap like this coming out of a meeting of a bunch of democrat officials, the amount of butthurt and phony outrage on Foxnews, etc. would set a new record high on the butthurt meter.

2011-12-01 12:53:43 PM
Republicans should just step back and watch OWS start to attack the Democrats.

I hate Luntz with the heat of a thousand suns. The man makes a living out of manipulating, confusing, and lying to Americans, and takes pride in that fact.

If by some freak event I were to wake up as Frank, I would immediately stick a gun in my mouth and see how many times I could pull the trigger.

The man is pure scum. People like him make me wish that there was an afterlife, because he will never get what he deserves in this one.

Yeah, pretty much.

Although, on the other hand, I think we can give Americans a LITTLE bit of credit for responding to the Occupy message at all. I've been trying to get the word out about income inequality since at least May of this year, and if you had told me back then that, within six months, people would be marching through the streets and getting arrested by the thousands for speaking out about it . . . well, I would have said you have WAY too much faith in Americans' intelligence and sense of social responsibility.

Until the first suggested solution is to further reduce taxes on the top income levels, outlaw abortions and ban gay marriage. Then it all goes to shiat.

I think this is probably the most significant statement in the whole article. Republicans are actually running away from the word "Capitalism". That would have been unimaginable even a few years ago.
